I've tipped the USA transfer guy between $5-$10 depending on how personable the driver is. I've had drivers that want to tell you about sights to see and like to talk about their city and make you feel welcome, others just want to get you to the hotel and get back for the next pick up. As far as the resort staff it's $2-3 a day for the maid, $2 for breakfast, $2-3 for lunch $1 for drinks and $5-10 for dinner depending on service. Figure it's roughly $150 for the week in tips
Also we gave the USA driver $10 each way, it was so much nicer than riding in a van crammed full of people and stopping three or four times on the way, after all, we all want to get to the sexy pool as soon as possible.........
Summarizing responses.... driver 10+10 +Return = $20 bell hop 4 bags +return = $8 got a great room ,, check in $20 Breakfast cook $2 x 7 days $ 14 waiter breakfest '' '' $14 drinks poolside 15 rounds x $2 x 7 days $210 Lunch $5 x 7 days $35 Supper 10 to 20 x 7 day $105 drinks patios 10 rounds x2x7 $140 Maid week 30 Total $596 @ week Don't forget excursions $$ spa $$ DJ $$ Gardener (why not ) $$ I just averaged out the replies on here, seems a bit high Personnally.. I bring about $700USD in cash and usually come home with 200 (10 days)( or equivalent in peso,s) After paying for incidentals,,Gatorade,,sunscreen, a good bottle of Tequila ,, ect, I guess that make me a light tipper?????
We bring $200 for tips so that make us even lighter tippers! We don't do 15 trips for drinks at the sexy pool, maybe 8 or 10 tops (yes we have those big ass 34oz Bubbas)
Maybe it's timely to review the TTR motto of "Nobody knows you, and nobody gives a shit"... suggest this also applies to tipping. Don't base your decisions on what others may think. Do what feels right for you and enjoy your vacation. Keep it fun
was just trying to make a point that if you tipped at all the times people say they tip, your tips would cost more then your trip . I thought I tipped a lot but after reading some of the responses , if there accurate i guess I,m a light to medium tipper. Bottom line , tip what you can afford and if the service merits it. divide your tip money into equal amounts for each day , or you will find yourself short of tip money after a good drunk.
We average about $100 a day, includes excursions, trinkets, tips and what not. Though I usually don't come home with an empty pocket.
Don't always limit your tipping to the workers you are always in contact with. Tip the grounds keepers,The repair guys and others that you may not be in direct contact with all the time. Trust me...It makes their day to tip them. They work hard and do a great job to make everyones vacations awesome and they do a great job
Don't forget the girls that clean the washrooms, and the poor girl that goes around cleaning the pool area and all the sick stuff, and the towel guy, don't forget Boris,, he always has the hockey updates.
