I remember being at my sisters wedding in Cancun 4 years back and my aunt saying it was her first time back since the 70's and commenting on how much it changed because last time she was there "there was 2 hotels"....I kind of thought to myself no way Cancun had to have been developed more than that by the mid 70's..she was right
We went to The Club Med in Cancun in 1976 or 1977 and road from airport was not paved and had wooden bridges like in the picture with the bus. Only one other hotel was built so maybe that was the original. Came back a few years later road was paved but not many hotels yet and when we came back in Dec 2012 we thought we had landed in Miami Beach it had built up so much.
LOL. Club Med was the "naughty" resort back in the 70s. We got married in 1972 and took a belated honeymoon to the one in the Bahamas a few years later.
multiple taxi drivers told us this when we left the resort...an advantage of leaving the resort actually learning something about the area!
