I'm really only an expert on what works for me, but fitness has been one of my favorite hobbies forever. I do something every day year round...and I believe you've really got to balance cardio, weight training and diet with equal importance. Muscle is like an engine that doesn't shut off...and calories are the fuel, even when you're sleeping - so don't ignore the strength training. It's a big part of losing weight and then maintaining where you want to be. I think it's great that so many people are responding to this thread and are working hard to look and feel better and live healthier. People will always come in all shapes and sizes...what's most important is feeling good about yourself. The quick result diets and 30 and 90 day fitness programs are a great way to get where you want to be...but the key is to then find a permanent solution that keeps you there...nutrition, cardio and strength training. Just find something that works and make it a part of every day. It's not always easy, but it's worth it.

We live in Canada's highest elevation "city", an outdoor sports mecca, and it's a wee bit hilly here. Think San Francisco streets with snow, first gear gets used frequently and 4WD is a no-brainer. Our low-key workout is walking back from the grocery and liquor store with both hands full. Tobogganing down our street with the kids then hauling them back up in the sled gets the quads pumping even more.

The past few winters our fitness/fun gig has been backcountry skiing but the snow/avalanche conditions have been less than ideal this season so we've spent the majority of our time skate skiing (XC skiing). It's fun if you like blurry vision, the taste of blood in your throat, hovering around max heart rate for an hour, and cornering on 2" wide skis with no metal edges.

Road and mountain biking in summer offers pretty much the same fun with the added benefit of eating dirt, dehydration experiments, and collecting scars. Stitches have been known to occur.
