Newbee here, so please forgive the question. We're looking at booking a trip from the UK in July for 7-10 days. Different agents quote different room types: Thomas Cook list a "Delux Room" only, one price no choice Lastminute.com have Delux Room. Delux Room with Ocean View, and a Jacuzzi Room Some other sites offer a Jacuzzi room AND a Jacuzzi suite. What's the difference? Ideally would want an ocean view but not overlooking the party pool as would want to get some sleep, esp as will be jet-lagged. What should we try to book? Any UK travellers have a view over whether its better to fly Virgin or Thomas Cook?
Hello fellow Brit! My advice - stick to the basic "de luxe" room, they're good enough. We always ask for a quiet room with a kingsize bed, but when in we get there you have to negotiate with the front desk. Sometimes if we want quiet we have to have 2 queen beds. Ocean view? Everyday from my beach bed, save your dosh. As for Virgin vs Thomas Cook, we fly from Manchester so don't have the choice. Thomas Cook is pants, but cheap and gets us there. Big tip, tell them you aren't taking their resort transfers and book USA Transfers through the link on here, then you won't be sat on a hot coach waiting an hour for other dozy Brits who don't turn up. :daisy::daisy:
We have always go with T.C and we have always got a quite pool view room if you don't like your room just asked to be moved . The 2000 are the noise rooms
We had a room this last time that faced the road. It was in the 4000 block and on the 4th floor, but actually only more like 3 flights of steps. There wasn't much traffic noise and we actually had a beautiful view of the lagoon and city in the distance. It was a nice room, and I liked it better than our room in the 5000 black last year. If you are in the 4000 block, I'd recommend having a higher floor.
Our opinion - paying for ocean view may only get you a peek at the water if you crane your neck just right and peer around trees and a building. We spend so little time in the room it doesn't make sense. For the price of an upgrade, we can stay an extra day or two.
odd numbers of 1317 (ours) to 1325 (i think) will give you a great ocean view and quiet too, except for Foam Party Night
Just a point, if you fly with Virgin you don't pay the exit tax that you have to pay with chartered flights, saves you about £40 each from memory, not vital I sure but one less thing to worry about keeping cash for (in $) on your way home. Virgin every time for us, far superior service. Check out Travelbag for great deals. Jet lag will get you on the way home, unlikely when you head west, you just end up with one long day. Best of luck :daveandmo:
I guess some people worry more about rooms than we do. If the AC works really well.......the sheets get changed...........AND the bathroom cleaned.......we're pretty much good to go. Other than sleeping and getting ready to go "out".......... we're never in there!
Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Will look again at the various prices and not worry about the room itself too much.
