Oh no he isn't! That guy has a look on his face like he is about to bust the biggest drug ring in Mexico every night. He doesnt appear to have any sense of humor and was there every night last week thru the 13th.

If you're referring to the security / medic that was there last summer, I have to say he was a pretty cool dude if you got a chance to know him.

I got cut last year and didn't even know it. I was walking around the lobby and my shirt was soaked with blood down my back...again no clue and I wasn't drunk.
Andria at the front desk grabbed my arm and made me sit down and they called the medic guy. He spoke little English but we we were able to communicate. He was able to get the bleeding stopped after 20 minutes or so. By that time we were laughing about some soccer game that was on and general stuff.

I saw him again at the foam party and realized he was also security. Someone said he was head of security, LOL he was carrying a clipboard. But we chatted again that night and he seemed like a good guy.
Even joked with me in bad broken English.

I thought he was on staff, didn't know he was a contract employee.

When we were there for the cruise on the 15th there were some security guys wearing white shirts alongside the more usual blue shirt security.

Jannet was talking to one of the security who always finds us a parking space and he said that he would be gone by the time of our next cruise, which is tomorrow.

We had the pleasure of seeing some of Mexico's finest military folk strolling the beach on Thursday the 13th of Feb around 4PM - was so odd to sit up, topless, and see these guys in full fatigues with their guns on their shoulders just strolling the strand.

No comment on Tilla or the security though as it was our first time and we didn't know the skinny.

Interesting. Never seen that in cancun. We once stayed at a fancy smancy resort in puerto Vallarta. Woke up one day and looked out the window and it was surrounded by military personnel in full gear and vests. Scary site but I guess necessary to protect important people. We found out el presidente was there that day for some governors conference going on all weekend. Nothing like vacationing in a resort turned military compound :)

I see it almost every day.

There's always an armed convoy or two going down the main Airport road escorting someone. At the downtown main street for bars you'll see hourly patrols of trucks with 4-6 armed Police (dressed all in black with balaclavas) in the back with a mounted machine gun on the frame. After dark, I'll often see 3 Police on separate motorcycles, each with automatic weapons strapped over their shoulder patrolling supermarket parking lots. When there's an important conference in town I've seen armoured personnel carriers trundling along and tanks parked at the airport.

You just get used to it!

I remember my first time to Cancun, I thought it was a military takeover lol! Army guys in customs, with drug/bomb dogs going over everything as it came in etc. In addition there were patrols up and down the beach too.

Turns out I picked for my first visit to Cancun to coincide with a summit between then presidents Fox and Bush and the Canadian PM Harper, aka the first 'Three Amigos' summit. But I can say that they didn't hamper my fun, after all look how many times I have been back!
