My wife and I will be making our first trip to TTR on March 21st. We can't wait. We have been pouring over the message boards soaking it all up and making friends we can't wait to meet in person. I can say this if TTR is half as fun as it sounds on theses boards we will have the time of our lives. We just have a few questions we have not been able to find the answers to. First I know it's silly but can you drink the water there? I was in Mexico about 10 years ago at another resort did not drink the water but still got sick from drinking drinks with ice. Is there anyone that can help with info on this? Second does anyone have tips on not getting sick from other things like food, too much alcohol ( you can never have to much) or other things your system might not be used to. Any info would help.
The water is suppose to be purified at the resort, but we still drink bottled water. Never got sick off the food. Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day and you will be just fine.
hydra-lyte powder worked great this year ! mix and drink it around 10:00 and I was great in the morning
2 drunken monkeys every morning to start your day in the right direction, forget coffee with your breakfast, the monkeys are the best with the omelettes
I would not drink the water off the resort or at the resort. We only drink bottle water everywhere we go. We always bring diarrhea medication, cold medicine, tums and anything else we can think of for over the counter drugs. There is a pharmacy across the street if you don't want to carry any of that with you. Have a great time!!
The water at the resort is processed through their internal water filtration system that filters all the water used on the resort. That being said, water everywhere tastes different from water back home, no matter where home is. Sometimes better, sometimes not. A lot of people stick with the bottled water for taste. but then have no problem chewing the ice in their drink. One thing to remember is if you go off the resort, the water is not filtrated for the most part (outside of major clubs and establishments). If the ice has holes in it, it's usually good. But remember that cooler that has the iced beer in it, doesn't have filtrated water. So be sure to wipe the mouth off real well. Also be aware that lettuce in the salads was probably washed in non-filtrated water too. If it's not cooked and you didn't peal it, maybe you shouldn't eat it. As for on the resort.. remember that you will be eating differently prepared food from what you normally have, everyone does their spices different. It all tastes good but like eating too much rich food for too long, you could have problems. Also remember to stay hydrated, with actual water too! Booze tends to strip away water from your system, you need to replace it and your electrolytes. Moderation in everything is the safest, but know that the green sludge will come visit you while you are there. And no you are not dyeing when it does. It's all the booze. Jamie
Ok, here you will open a can of worms! We are ADVOCATES for not drinking the tap water although MANY will say it is purified and ok. It was brown one time we were there. This is our 9th trip. We always drink bottled and brush with bottled but that is just us. 1 liter bottle is provided in your room each day and if you tip a little extra you might get lucky and get more. We have gotten sick MANY times while in Mexico so always looking for ways to avoid it. We have been on a roll the last few trips and this is what we have changed thanks to advice through members on CCC and seems to work for us. One month before we go we take DUKORAL (available at your pharmacist) to help against ecoli, travellers diarrhea etc. Also, one month before we go we start taking probiotics. When we are there we try to drink lots of water and take electrolyte sachets like EmergenC or Energy Shots. Make sure your meat is well done etc. Also, this is a big one....DON'T drink out of the plastic glasses around the pool etc. bring your own travel mug or buy one in the gift shop for $5-6. If you see how they "wash" the glasses behind the bar you'll understand why. I'm not trying to scare you, I think some people are just more sensitive to illness then others. THAT'S US! And nobody wants to be sick during their vacay, so these are just things that seem to work for us. Hope this helps
Drink bottled water. Also, take some Cipro with you. If you start to feel some intestinal issues, take one. If that doesn't clear it up, then it's not something that Cipro will fix, so don't bother taking any more.
I've always had a great constitution, I can eat road kill in July and never have a problem, Lori can walk past a salad bar and she's in trouble. Be careful, take probiotics & drink bottled water as often as you can.
We drink water at the restaurants and eat the ice. In five trips never had a single problem. In the room we only drink bottled water, because the water has a bit of a odor problem.
