    Evening all :aktion030:.
Any advice on hiring a local private driver to take us to Chichen Itza for a day trip as we don't want to go on the tour bus that takes you to endless trinket shops , we just want to go straight there and then return after a couple of hours back to the :lotsofmichaelfs:at TTR :wink3:.
Some average prices would be helpful too.
    Thanks all.

We did that last year to avoid being gone a whole day. If you go in to see the tour operators in the office they can arrange one for you. Dont be afraid to negotiate a little, you can get them to lower the price.

WOW :icon_sad: . Checked the below link and it is over $400 before tip for the 2 of us. I dont understand how it can be so much. I heard the average wage is about $10 a day so why does it cost $75 for a guide at chichen itza for 2 hours? The sums don't add up.

We hired a tour guide for the walk around the pyramids. I recall it being around $75 to $100. Just for the guide at the ruins.

It was worth the money to us. He pointed out the Jesus tile and told us about all the skelators...

We hired a van and would highly recommend that with a group of friends.

Sounds like Steve and his gal Trina do a pretty good job with transportation. Its worth extra to me to have someone who speaks english and has a good reputation setting this sort of thing up. You also know how to get a hold of him in the future.

We wen't last May with a group of 6 from the resort -

You really should hire a tour guide - its $75 for about an hour at the ruins. They explained a lot to us and since you will only go once in your life, its totally worth it.

The price to the tour company/driver includes all toll roads + entrance fee.
    It's a 2.5hr drive each way.

You really need to go to Ik Kil - have lunch and swim. It's 10-minutes from Chichen Itza & a fabulous experience. We have pics up.

A tour bus would have been cheaper and probably only take an extra 2hrs out of your day. 6 people in our van left us a little crammed and I sat up-front.

It's a 300 mile round trip to start with which is quite a lot of gas, the road is a toll road and the tolls arent cheap. Entrance fee is included then there's the drivers wage plus wear and tear on the vehicle and, of course, an element of profit.

It's far better to get a group together because the cost per person comes down drastically the more people you add. It's only $65 per person if there are 10 in the group.
