When I was researching places to go, we looked at Jamaica and Aruba and a few other areas in the Bahamas. On almost ALL of those reviews, LOTS of people had something to say about the level of drug dealing/pushing. Either "was bad" or "was not as bad as I thought it would be" or "was not as bad as when we went to..." Is Cancun in general just very low issue with this or TTR is so no one feels the need to comment? I thought maybe it was a drug legality thing but when I tried to search on that, the results about the actual legality of anything in Mexico was pretty contradictory NOT LOOKING TO BUY! lol A lot of posts seem to think that lol I was just wondering since I am a wealth of useless knowledge, remember? (Not that this is useless if people are so inclined to be dabbling - this could be a good thread for them). Just was wondering why no one mentioned it when it's all over the place for other destinations. As in, they mention it before mentioning the food or room condition or anything! Nothing more I teach school in FL - drug testing, friends. Drug testing
If I leave the resort, I'll be offered drugs about every 10 minutes. Went with friends a couple years ago and he wasn't offered at all. So it varies. It's not really an issue. You just say no and move along.
Have never smelt the sweet aroma on premises. Have heard of who to ask but don't want to get them in trouble They have signs up saying they will kick you out if they catch you .
The beach vendors will ask if you want hats, beads, cigars...weed or coke. I usually try not to make eye contact.
That is generally what the reviews say for the other places: street/beach vendors; don't make eye contact; etc. Good to know!
Actually it says that will not only kick you out but turn you over to the police... As much as I love Mexico and Cancun, I just want to visit, not live there. Jamie
My understanding is drugs in Mexico are legal to possess in small quantities for personal use, but illegal to sell. I would avoid even possessing small quantities for personal use, because if discovered in possession by the Police then you'll be carted off to jail and stay there until the amount and type of drugs have been verified by laboratory analysis which might take days or weeks. In Mexico, once arrested you are guilty until proven innocent.
If you are looking for it you will find it no matter where you travel. I've been approached by beach vendors, store owners and even nightclub staff in Cancun.
