Yep same guy as before, posting from same location New York with a new account but from a different ip. Probably looking for some kind of revenge on me by trying to scare off people.

Had a couple of complaints about him and banned him within an hour.

Please don't worry too much, 99.99% of people here are genuine and the weirdos always give up before I do.

Re the Bull guy I also zapped him a few days ago before Joejoes showed up. I mentioned it at the time here but it was in the middle of another thread so you may have missed it.

We really do not have many of these kind of people, it's just unfortunate that we happened to get two in a week. The main thing to do is to just keep reporting any offensive private messages. I can spot offensive public posts easy enough myself, but not offensive messages.

    That wouldn't really help I don't think.

Most of the time the weird guys dont make any public posts - that is always a good giveaway when deciding to accept a friend request or know if a PM is genuine - look up their previous post count and how long they have been a member.

I already have an extra button next to each post that regular members don't see which I can click to show the IP that the post was made from.

Then in the back end there is an ip cross checker where I can type in any ip address and it will show the names of all members that have used it, and for any particular member I can check all the ips they have ever posted from.

The problem is it is easy to either use a proxy to mask your real ip or to use a different internet connection to give you a new ip and get round a ban.

Like I say though, they always give up before I do.

I always suggested that Trip Advisor post the IP Address and state/country of origin. Most businesses have a static IP, but a lot of homes don't. But still, it would be a big help. No, TA didn't !!!

Imho that would present an even worse risk. If ip's were publicly visible to everyone then potential stalkers could view them and tie down someone's location.

Even homes that dont have a static ip address (and there are a lot that do) the ip will usually only vary slightly and will often be enough to pinpoint a small town or neighbourhood.
