Hi guys . Has anyone any views on Oasis Viva . Some friends of ours have been after doing 5 trips to Temptation and they said Viva is far better and more up market . Aparently there are staff from TTR working there etc . Topless also . Any views appreciated as deciding where to go .
There are several reviews on Trip Advisor filed during the month of Oct. It is really confusing but apparently Grand Oasis Viva and Oasis Viva are the same resort, the "GRAND" guest simply wear a different wirst band and get more and better perks, (Similar to TTRs premier members) !!! Lots of the positive reviews are from folks with only 1 post (very "iffy"). Most of the negative comments are related to all of the contruction thru out the resort. At least this is a conversion that is NOT in "name only". Lots of rave comments about the great beach !!! Real lots of complains about bad food and restaurants being closed due to constrction. Lots of the "Soon Come, Mon" stuff. Sorry, I forgot this is the Cancun forum. Some are even stating that its Ok to be topless at the current time (European style). Of course, thats no big deal at most Mexican resorts. At least on the beach. Real problem is that the offical conversion isn't going to happen until mid Dec. That means that the first Valid reviews won't start appearing until Jan. By then Airfare for the early part of 2014 is going to be $$$ !!!
There is a couple other threads on here about the same thing... Nobody will know for sure what its going to be like until after the conversion.
just spent the better part of the morning on this property with several other great cancuncare regulars,(some of white band and some red)on Thursday past, getting the Royal 'tour'. Seemed like the tour needs refining and the man behind the curtain had to take a meeting. (To be fair we asked for an impromptu tour, but we could of done our own stealth surveillance) Some of what you say I will vouch for based on what I saw. Call me stupid but I will pick up a stray dollar from the ground. But I ain't rich yet, so perhaps that's just me. If I found 20 dollars in the same morning I would say that was a lucky day, try to milk my luck. I wouldn't kick the dollars to the curb or tell someone else to pick up the money and how to treat it, if you get my drift. When our group was leaving we seen the man behind the curtain talking to the head Gardner or head security guard or head bellhop, not sure. He feigned his gratitude for our interest and I asked some probing TTR comparison questions. he invited me to email him. Our group got several free drinks each and some cheap talk and future hopes from a lovely young lady who has never been to TTR and had the standard practised line. But hard questions apparently were not her dept. For the record I'm not ready to invest my vacation dollar with the man behind the curtain yet. I still have faith in Diego's mecca
I'm definitely game to try it. Plan to head back to Cancun in April. It may come down to price and availability, but I hope to be able to try this new resort. I luvs me some Temptation, but on this 8th trip I'm ready for something new and very excited about what I'm reading it's going to be like. They are changing the resort, the beverages, the menus, the atmosphere, etc. so of course it's a mess now and prolly will be until January. Then I expect it to be great!
some of the reviews are reporting that this place is falling short on some things. . . Sorry to say I was right about my intuitions and happy we didn't fall for the charade. . . and very glad TTR is still mecca
Well they haven't gotten broken in yet, that is by us in the east coast (Nova Scotia)so i hope they can handle an east coast party TTR style cause we gonna give er an show them how its done ,hope we are gonna get some help,,what ya say??? can't hear you!!!
Well it is becoming obvious with each passing day, that they don't want anybody to show them 'how its done' or 'TTR style', which is what I tried to convey with my post in Nov. We were part of one of the first groups to do a site tour. For the record, that was after the soft launch (Oct 15, I believe) and we didn't see a sexy vibe or a party. The hotel was 27% capacity (TTR was overbooked) and that was the excuse for why there wasn't much happening. It doesn't take an M.I.T. Engineer grad to see the potential of the place, but we didn't see anything we haven't seen at many other upscale A.O's. We already knew their food was poor, cuz they are part of the Oasis chain, which is notorious for blandness. What had piqued our interst was the poaching and attempted poaching of Original Resorts staff. Honestly we were fearful of the hype as we are TTR members and we would have had a connundrum if we liked what we seen. The much ballyhued installation of the stripper poles in the club and supposed multi-choice colored wrist bands sounded like they were hitting the ground running. And were goin to be real competition to Temptation. In fact the blind dining resto (Black Box), which we actually tried to enter, sounded very edgy.Of course it never did open. We were told our friends' band would be playing Coyote. Sombra is the best rock band in Cancun. (They still do, but are limited in what they can do.) But one look at the bar's sightlines told us it won't be great. Talk of cool adult entertainment sounded promising, and some of the rooms looked nice. An off-premises free entry club (Elevate), although not our cup of whiskey, conveyed that Oasis was really goin to shake up the AO marketplace. But our brief tour dispelled any of that. We knew then, most of this was cheap talk. We are 'Show me' ppl and we weren't seeing anything. Just words and passing ideas. We were looked at as mere 'one trip a year, let's try (fill.in the blank)' types, instead of hard core multi- times regulars. We should've been given the red carpet treatment. It took a lot for me to give up hrs at TTR, to visit GOV, but we made the effort. I didn't feel any luv in return. Our thoughts and ideas were not wanted or asked for. Their was no research done on us to better know their potential customers. We were led to understand they knew the TTR guest and were going to exceed expectations. And yet they were so transparent to me. Over NYE, some long time friends left TTR and did a tour of GOV one morning. 5 ppl in total, all premiere. This was almost 2 weeks after the supposed hard launch (Dec). They were stunned at what they saw. It was exactly what our group witnessed in Nov. 'This place (TTR) has nothing to worry about. It will be years b4 GOV gets to this level if it ever does' they reported to us. We smiled and agreed. Incidentally, a hard launch in my world, means We are Live, so everything better be right or you'll looking for a job. It means, the script, scenery and show is ready for prime-time. Dress Rehearsal is over and it is for keeps now. There is a reason that TTR has a massive repeater ratio. There is a sexy vibe with the coolest crowd. GOV is no different than most other AO's, including their own sister property when it comes to a cool sexy hip vibe. They don't have one and have no idea, like all the other resorts, how to implement it. In fact there are better properties out there to be bored at. They, like all the others, think they know what they are doin, and trott out the excuses, when they fail. Funny, on that day in Nov, they had no answers for my hard probing questions, and now they have weak logic alibis for some of the same poignant queries. Well the truth is, it takes no time to switch a vibe, or train staff or improve your food. It takes no time to change, if you want change. And the time for change has passed. It is not in the future. Many first impressions have come and gone. In this day of consolidation and mergers, companies change almost over night. Major fast food restaurants change decor, menus and image continent wide or even globally, quarterly. They bring in turn around specialists and make change happen. Most of us saw the fall of the Berlin Wall and change come to Germany quickly. And we all saw how fast change affected us post 9/11. And yet, GOV (a modest 400 room hotel) is asking for more time to implement their concept??? The truth is they have already changed their concept since Nov. They realized the secret of TTR's success (hard core party crowd) are not interested in transferring, unless they have a say on how things are implemented. The staunch TTR regs are a demanding passionate lot and GOV could never be able to handle their needs. They have given up on the switch and instead have eliminated the new gimmicks. (i.e. Blind Dining, off premises club. Etc) GOV is a corporation, that resorts to discounting and Groupon tactics to keep the rooms full. Do and say anything to get bookings. The type of company that have to take a meeting and get approvals to replace an irritating DJ. Their is no passion for the property or the guests at the upper tier. So in essence they tried to make a big splash and said what they felt they needed to say to rescue an empty hotel. They were never committed to the concept change and are watering down as I write this. But they are headed to what they already are. A mediocre plain jane boring Adult's Only, with an identity crisis, but a full hotel
If we invested in Original Resorts back at our fist visit to TTR Cabo, we would have been given the bait and switch to a Clothing optional Change in Cabo. Then only to have the resort completely sold. TTR Cancun is a frat party and has its good and bad aspects. Not going to complain as we had a GREAT vac there last year. BUT if we were premier members of Original we would not want GOV to succeed either. We just hope we get a few great trips out of GOV and then TTR will hopefully be updated and MORE awesome and we may be back. (assuming we dont cancel GOV) lol
