I thought I would post a very quick note regarding our first impressions of GOV.

We have been here now for 3 nights and are staying 10 in total. This was a last minute decision to book here spurred on by extremely cold weather back home and my recent retirement.

The hotel: Very clean, very nice. We got our balcony room. That cost an extra 20 a day that was paid for at check in. We also paid for the safe.

The beach: this is a gorgeous beach. White powder sand and very shallow. You can walk in quite a way and be no more than knee deep.

The pool: Well they look nice. I have only put my ankles in. They are very cold. I have seen very few people in the pools. No more than half a dozen at any time. The loneliest guy at the resort is the bartender at the pool bar. Most people hang out at the beach.

Beach bar: people line up at this for drinks. The line can be quite long at times unlike Temptation which is like a massive scrum it is very orderly and polite. Imagine being on vacation with a bunch of Canadians and you will get the idea.

Topless: there is no topless. There is probably more topless on a Disney cruise. Ok, that is an exaggeration. But it is close. If there are a hundred women on the beach maybe 3 will be topless. And that's on a good day.

Restaurants: we have eaten at the Italian, Moroccan and Mexican. I think the Italian was best of the bunch. They got rid of the get up at 730 rule to book. Now you line up at 9 to book only the White Box. We haven't done that yet. Buffet is ok.

Night life: Pretty much only coyotes and it is ok. Music is all right. Can get a bit crowded and stuffy at show time but then a lot leave after that. I read somewhere on here that Friday is lingerie night. Last night no one was wearing lingerie. I guess because no one knew about it.

This is all preliminary. I will write more when I get back.

Thanks much guys - what is up with not announcing the theme nights? Would that not make guests want to stay and party all night?

Anyone get the feeling that GOV is happy to see their (all inclusive) guests leave to go clubbing elsewhere? And up until recent the news the bars close at 1AM... Think about how much $ is saved not serving drinks to guests that went out spending pocket money drinking at non-GOV clubs. Lines at the beach bar? Hire more staff or open additional beach bar. The more time waiting equals less time drinking the drinks? One thing TTR is - they make it easy to take advantage of the services..

Did u ask about other upgrades? Wondering if they are upgrading to the jacuzzi rooms yet and what the cost is.

Do you think the lack of pool activity is due to the setup? Not enough chairs there? Or just due to it being too cold?

Agree about the pools !!! We never saw more than 5 folks in there also. Rather than standing in line at the beach bar, I would often walk over to the pool bar and get a drink.
Sometimes you had to wake up the bartender !!!

There is one woman who has been working the beach bringing drinks. I don't recall her name just now. She is pretty good. Tip her and she comes back a lot.

We haven't been past 1 am just yet. The first night was our travel day and I only lasted till 1030. The last couple of nights we went till 12 or so. There just wasn't much of a party to stay up for.

I have a sheet that says an upgrade to a seduction suite is 1040 pesos and to a sian kaan suite is 1300 pesos. I am not sure what each one of those rooms has.

I think there is a problem with the setup around the pool. They have now only about 12 chairs and maybe the same number of spots available on the beds. Being cold of course doesn't help. Maybe later in the spring it will be better.
