Hi Everyone, Does anyone do other excursions besides the Boobs Cruise (lol)? My husband and I were thinking of going to Chichen Itza or zip lining or something like that, but wanted to know what you guys thought? Can we book these kinds of trips once we get there or do they have to be booked in advance? Thanks! d and c
We can arrange any kind of excursions for you, prices and service are better than booking once there. Trina is our specialist in arranging these.
My first year there when I didn't know anyone I would do the nightly trip to the clubs that the resort provides. I think it's $50 for a ride there and bottle service and you need to take a cab or taxi home. There is a place on the resort that you book any of tours that you want. I haven't done it personally so I can't really quote prices or how good they are. My best recommendation would be to not book prior and make your decision once your there. I've seen people book a whole weeks worth of excursions and trips beforehand only to miss every single one of them because they're having so much fun at the resort!
We went to Xel Ha last year. Enjoyed it very much but don't think I would pay again. I did regret not booking before we went though.
Chichen Itza is sooo far and an entire day, I am probably going to try and do it this year, but I am a Mayan Buff and I have been to many others in the Yucatan all the way to Palenque in Chiapas. I am sure it's worth the day, but there are some amazing things one can do in a day just going as far as Tulum and coming back up. I have done this trip with a group of 15, we had a blast, we were staying in Puerto Morelos, we arrived back at the hotel around 6 pm and we had a lot of time to wander, snorkel, eat and have a couple of happy hours here and there along the way. OK read this through in it's entirety as it is long and has more than one option for eating etc. Any variation of this itinerary will give you an amazing day, I love this area and it's history and natural wonders. There are options to have a snack or lunch all the way along, so if you are not hungry yet in Tulum and want to wait until after snorkelling in Akumal, then just enjoy the sights of Tulum and wait as Akumal is a great place to spend an extra hour or so…..also on your way back from Akumal towards Playa there are more and more eating and snacking options….stay tuned and just pm me later if you have any ? I would hire a private vehicle w driver for the entire day, so you have someone to drive, I know you can do it here on this site or another Company I have done a lot with is Cancun Transfers. I am sure both are comparable and can quote you a price, which I would ask that they include a cooler with water and beer in the price. I would leave after an early breakfast as this is do able if you are on task and having fun, leaving time to enjoy the Mayan Riviera, but get up early, eat and go. I personally would eat a big breaky and be off before 7 which ensures I leave myself time to sit in nice quaint places along the way to enjoy the view and a bevie. I would head straight to Tulum for the Ruins they open at 8am and you are approx 2 hours away from them, do the ruins, they are so incredibly beautiful and make for a great intro into the Mayan History, and photo ops, WOW. You can swim inside the Ruins Park, but I would wait and plan on a swim next stop. ####Note: the first time I did a ruin, I did it on my own, it had no english etc these ruins do have plaques etc with english to read, I did not hire a guide as it is so much to absorb and I wanted to do my own speed through, since then I have read many Mayan History Books and I still have not hired a guide. If you would like to hire a guide it should be around $500 Pesos and it will be right at the entrance of the park where you pay your $54 pesos (i think) entrance fee. Walk or ride back out to where your driver is parked and…... I would then head to Ohm (Tulum Beach Road South at the Y) as they have a very nice bench on the beach, which thousands of people have taken amazing pictures on, it is an event in itself, stop and have a bevie and a snack if you need one, there are shops and restaurants along here, I personally love Ziggy's Beach Club for lunch, the food and options for where to sit are excellent (either inside or outside, beachside or above) great coconut shrimp or wait for Akumal to eat, if you are not famished by now. Akumal has many amazing eateries as well . On your way back out towards Tulum Pueblo on your right is a Chedrauli, if you need sunscreen, booze (as long as it is not Sunday, no booze sold ) fruit, more beer, ice, a nice sweet donut etc, this is the place and the prices are fantastic. Tulum Pueblo has some nice wander shopping or if you are not interested in wander shopping I would head up to Akumal. Akumal Bay is where you want to be, stop at the main hotel entrance "Hotel Akumal Caribe and let them know you are heading to the dive shop) your dude can park, to the dive shop and grab a snorkel set from them and on your own go out and see the turtles, it is so darn amazing, you are guaranteed to see any number of leatherbacks. Starting straight out from the Dive shop near the sailboat that is often moored there. Do not dive at them or attempt to touch them please. Keep an eye out for boats as many locals do these snorkel tours, which IMO are not as great as going right off the beach and heading out, do not go near the reef as there can be a bit of a pull as the water tries to go out to the Sea. Take what ever time you need and enjoy Akumal Bay, this area has a huge part in saving the Great Green Turtles, there is a great turtle info museum there as well it is in the same bay ask at the dive shop if you are interested. Ok if you feel like a snack or a bevie once done, stop up at Lol Ha or off to Buena Vida for a drink, Lol ha probably has better Mexican Food or food all around, but Buena Vida is pretty awesome if you have not been there, quirky and Day of the Deadish with a big skeleton over the swing bar. Don't doddle though as there is so much more to do. Lol ha has has a shower off to the south at the side of the dive shop. Buena Vida has an area you can shower off as well just to the North of the Bar area near the pool. One could do appies at both as they do both have amazing appies. If you want to have a look, wander or be vie one could stop at Puerto Adventuras on the West Side of the Road there is a Marina with gorgeous boats and restaurants and shopping all along the interior of the Marina as well as a Dolphin Swim place, where for free you can observe different sea life in captivity. I do not like these places as I have strong views on this especially after watching the documentary "The Cove" So you do have some options here. For my favourite adventure and I so wish I was here with you as seeing a person swim in a Cenote for the first time after an amazing day in the salt water is frigging amazing. I still remember the time my sons and I did this for the first time and it was not in a Cenote of this beauty. I would then head to Rio Secreto Rio Secreto Tour Mexico | Nature Reserve and Ecotours Riviera Maya to have the most amazing Cenote experience, this type of Cenote is something everyone should see, you may be able to pre purchase your tickets in advance Rio Secreto is definitely worth your time. When I go all I do is the Cenote, but depending on where you are in your day you may want to take in the rest. This is an awesome place to refresh and be in awe of the Natural Beauty of QRoo. Your options here are really about your time. I have a couple of Playa del Carmen options here as well as Crocacun, which is an amazing place for you to stop and see and hold some critters from the Yucatan and South America, many which have been rescued from Poachers etc as well as feed the Yucatan Deer and walk through a pen filled with Croc's, another amazing photo op. After this I would head back to the Resort or if you need a night off head into Puerto Morelos Pueblo and find the bookstore where one can actually find books in english….one of the only places in the Mayan Riviera and then walk towards the water and have some awesome Chinese Food! I hope this is not to crazy, this is doable and I can attest to that, we had a group which was from 8 years old to 80 years old as well as a special needs young lady of 22, we had a blast, it's so great to not drive and not look at a map, have a place to keep what you do not need as you wander and sight see, have a beer and take amazing photos of one day of your Crazy Mayan Adventure. Cheers
We went and did xplor park last year, was super fun. 14 zip lines before lunch. its a dry park (no alcohol) and all inclusive. Yes its a whole day, but WE can only take some much party
We did a Chichen Itza tour last month arranged with Trina :mnm: At first we had trouble getting 6 people but near the end we quickly rose to 24, and filled 2 privater vans She arranged the on line payments after the minimum amount of people were signed up. List your intentions on the role call for your month to see if there is any interest
I know she ideally would like a couple of days prep but...to tell you the truth we're playing it by the weather.....which seems to be improving! I'd rather just stay by the Sexy pool and enjoy the Sexy Sinaholics! Tours were on the back up plan.
We would like to plan a trip to chicken itza during our stay dec 19 - jan 3, private or a small group, if anything is in the works already or if we can get some more information?
