Lol that just kills me.... Is so dangerous there that why everyone goes back so many times year after year! You're safer in Cancun than Detroit
Please, LOL. Not all of Michigan is like Detroit. When I look out of my front window I see Deer. Michigan is a big state. We avoid certian parts of Detroit whenever possible. You wouldn't catch me walking around the streets of Detroit. Also, we both carry. Can't have that option in Mexico. I know not all of Mexico is like Juarez either, but that's why I'm asking. I personally don't feel Cancun is un-safe. I just go off news articles and stories of bad things happening to tourists. I think these types of crimes do pose a legitimate concern though. If something happened in another country, corrup police stories (even on this board) we aren't necessarily as protected by rights as we would be at home. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...ed-1-decapitated-mexico-resort_n_3081836.html I'm not saying it's like Detroit, but when you're talking about foot traffic and walking around in a strange city in a strange country, I think one would be remiss not to exercise caution. Just because people go there multiple times a year doesn't mean shit doesn't happen.
I am with rogers and my company pays the extra every year for this service. I go with the 75 dollar one so I can talk to my son too. With this said, I have NEVER been able to make a phone call out, perhaps Im doing it wrong, but I have tried to get staff to help me in the past with no luck. However I could text with no issues, and my son could easily call me with no issues, just like he was sitting at home. Its clear and crisp just like I was in Canada. With my data I dont turn it on unless there is wifi around, the hotel has it but its rather expensive. I have herd that the speed is fine though if your in the right spots. I may try it out this year, but I did not use their wifi cards last year. Hope that helps!
Just a FYI - here is what you need to do to make a outgoing call from Mexico 00 - 1 - Area Code - Phone Number 00 = Exit code for Mexico, and is needed for making any international call from Mexico 1 = Country Code of Canada Area code = dial area code of the city in Canada you are calling
What bad things? I haven't heard of a single tourist murdered or even injured by drug cartels in the 9 years plus I have lived here. They don't worry me at all. Drug dealers kill drug dealers all over the World and Cancun is no exception. Cancun has a population approaching one million (that's more people than Detroit). Love how the Huff post calls Cancun a "resort town", like it's some kind of sleepy fishing village. Stories like the one above happen from time to time, but it's bad guys against bad guys in bad neighbourhoods - a long way from the tourist areas. Of course, the media likes to intersperse the story with pictures of nightclubs and beaches and pretend it happens in the places tourists go. I think once you arrive you will see what I mean about Cancun being a very safe place for tourists
We bought the wifi cards at the resort last year. We got one every second day because they are good for 24 hours. It's not the best and usually didn't work in the room, but we had better luck on the balcony and sometimes had to go the lobby or Patios. But it worked good enough for us to video chat with our kids back home! I understand where you are coming from, our son was 9 months old when we went last year.
Sim card works great either use viber or gv phone (Google voice) - WiFi works to but but Sim card is cheaper. We got the WiFi free since we are on a refferal week. Only one device can use WiFi can't switch devices.
yes, don't deal with canadian phone companies.i have vz but they don't offer me anything in mx.canadian companies are worse.i like verizon.i don't know about phones, but wifi is available at hotel.not cheap.you may be able to get a plan for a temporary time you're down there.rogers will screw you
