We are headed out for our third trip to TTR this week. We always feel like we get exceptional service from everyone, and we bring plenty of dollars for tipping.

    My question is this:

What are some things that the staff, bar staff in particular, would appreciate that we could buy in the US, but may be a little more difficult to come by in Mexico?

We still plan to take money for tipping, but we would like to do a little extra this time.

I know someone who used to give international calling cards. I think that's old school and more for cruise staff. And I understand doesn't really address what we have in the US that they don't. A tee-shirt of the US?

Other than certain foodstuffs (that most locals wont miss anyway) there really isn't much in the way of every day things you can get in the US that you can't get here.

Be careful not to unintentionally insult people, I remember years ago a similar thread had a suggestion of bringing shampoo and soap, and another person said plastic bags were difficult to come by and they always bought a couple of dozen Walmart bags with them to hand out!

Curiosity sake, is it actually difficult to get Peanut Butter in Mexico, or is that just a Chinos joke?

There are probably 10 different brands of peanut butter in any large supermarket, some of them imported from the US.

It's a joke - Sarah69 once said that Chinos always ran out of peanut butter, and that he preferred crunchy. She was referring to his *ahem* choice of hand lubricant.

We know the joke about Chinos choice of self abuse materials. :D We just weren't sure if there was actually a shred of truth to the notion that it's difficult to come by in Cancun. (IE. If it's not a common food consumed locally, you may have to go to a specialty store to get it.)

Last trip Beth brought some stuff for Boris' daughters. She got it from a tween store popular in southern Ontario. He seemed to really appreciate it and said that his girls would love it and they didn't have that sort of thing local.

I really don't know all the things she bought but it was stuff like glittery lip stuff I think.

That kind of thing requires a little more knowledge of the staff and sorry to say the only 1 I know anything about is Boris.
