We have used Apple out of St. Louis a couple of times and were satisfied. Might try Apple for flight and Alpharooms for room.
I booked 8 nights for two April 12-20 with Alpharooms.com for $1719, $214 per night. The original rate was $1677 but they charge a service fee of $42. I have never used Alpharoom and do find it strange to purchase TTR room from a British travel service when I live in the USA. Steve endorses Alpharoom so that make me feel more comfortable about it. I am using some miles points but did not have enough points for the trip so I had to purchase one ticket. Still it was only $578 for two tickets non-stop east coast to Cancun. So final price for 8 nights is $2296. Now it is time to count the days before we arrive - 168 days.:sunny:
Wow. I just noticed that alpharooms is back down to $162 a night for the last week of April and $167 a night for the first two weeks of May. Hooray. Much better than the 200+ it was when I last checked. And actually I just played with the dates more. As long as you arrive April 19th or later you can get the price to $160something a night. Not $130something a night prices but much more to the norm than those 200+ prices. Also remember, if you search and dont get those prices try another browser. It might be tracking that you have been looking at those dates and making them more expensive for you.
So those prices just dropped for you? It could be due to the fact i use a VPN that routes through Europe. I've been seeing those low prices from April 19th on for a few months now. Its been at the most $165 for me and some days drops to about $160. Part of the reason we changed when we were coming was due to the big price difference back when the thread started. And for a while it was down in the $130s. I almost bit and wish i would have. Now though, we are thinking of splitting the trip between TTR and GOV so we will see if the prices change much more.
I have checked once every 2 or 3 weeks for the past 3 months and it always ranged between $1400 - $1600 for a week. I primarily looked at the first 2 weeks of may though.
We paid around 2600 for everything for 8 days, this includes airfare, room, enhanced insurance and roundtrip transfers. All in all I think we got a great deal flying out of Pittsburgh.
The difference is when you were searching i think. The first 3 weeks of April were the prices you saw, but from the 19th of April till the end of the April it was almost always in the $160 range with it dropping to $136 a night for a few weeks. I'm a cheapskate so as soon i noticed that the last 10 days of April we changed our targeted dates from the beginning of the month till the end of the month.. Still not sure when we are coming... Getting sitters for 7 days is tough, hopefully someone great will come along to watch the critters.
If I remember correctly you two asked for a vegassy club feel on here at one time. Last year we visited end of April into early may and early may had a good crowd into that type of stuff. We have 3 of our own without good gparent support so we hear you on the kid coverage factor. Hoping for a fun crowd in early may 2014 with couples we hope we can convince to go out on the town this time (always hard to pull people away from paty o's.)
