I'm heading to TTR in a couple Weeks (Nov 14-20). While I'm there I'd like to go see the pyramid. Has anyone got advice on what tour to take or avoid? Maybe estimated cost also? I'd really like to do this so if anyone is interested in joining me I'd welcome it. (I've got to come back with a few pictures I can show people)
There are lots of ruins/Pyramids to go see. Chicen Itza is about 2.5/3hrs drive away - certainly the most prodigious of the sites but the furthest away and you will be gone from 8am-6pm You may be better off doing a morning trip to Coba or Tulum. 90-minutes away. We plan on doing Dos Ojos our next trip. Private tours through USA Transfers is best but you need a group of 6+. Just book through the hotel when you arrive if going by yourself. Sometimes the Hotel will do Private tours for 12 or less. If you do Chichen Itza - do a tour where you stop at Ik Kil cenote for lunch & swim. if you manage to go in a small group to Chichen Itza ensure you budget & pay the $75 for a private 90-minute tour guide.
Thanks! I'll check out the availability. Is there a wide variance in prices depending on hotel vs USA Transfers?
Tours are no different - its how you get there that is. Tour buses do pick up/drop off throughout the hotel zone so more stops - they will also stop for souvenir shopping and you travel with people you don't know. USA Transfer is a personal service and you control your tour. You pick how long you stay at each area and your driver waits. No tourist trap stops , and if you leave early you miss the crowds. Sunday is the worst day to tour the historic sites - so avoid that day. Mexican Nationals get in for free every Sunday.
I think Steve is doing these tours as well. It seems like they were talking about it in the forums in the last couple of weeks......they include a stop at a Tequila distillery I think!
We just did a Personal tour with Steve http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/tem...057-all-hotties-hellraisers-6.html#post598197 Would ask to stop at a large liquor store on way back , the Tequila prices at the factory were ''Touristy"" Highly recommend doing this format
I did a tour through "alltournative" which you can book right at the resort. It was a full day excursion which included zip lining, reppeling, kayaking, Mayan food, cenote, and climbing the temple for 129.00USD. It was definitely worth it, smaller group of people as well so it was easy to get to know everyone.
