I've travelled to South America countless times (Maria is from Peru). Without question the most dangerous part of the trip is the airport. In particular, the taxi ride. Why risk getting in a car with someone you don't know just to save a few bucks? Pay the extra money and feel secure in the fact that you're in safe hands. There are people who prey on tourists and the best place to find them...the airport. I will for sure be using the transfer service provided by the resort.
btw - USA Transfers (one way CUN to Desire) for up to 7 people is only $45 USD or $ 65 USD round trip
Possibly splitting a few hairs here and not trying to be argumentative but Mexico isn't South America, it's North America I think safety at the airport is a lot better here. The reason normal taxis are not allowed to pick up from Cancun airport (beside the fact of the high priced concession) is that their vehicles are often not in good condition, seatbelts not working, bumps and dents, bits falling off, lights not working, drivers who aren't capable of driving a bicycle safely, poor customer service etc etc. If the one good thing the airport did, it was to regulate strictly and keep the regular taxi guys out by requiring certain standards - this means that Cancun airport is not a dangerous part of the trip at all. It can be expensive if you are not informed and don't pre-book, but dangerous it is not. That's fine, they are approved by the airport. But their prices aren't as good as USA Transfers
Thanks Steve. I guess the message I was trying to get across here was to use a recognized service as opposed to some random guy showing up at the airport. And ps: thanks for the geography lesson.
I used Cancun Airport Transfers this time and was $70 return and they were on time and i had a mini van/bus all to my self you can get them via the Airports website.
USA Transfers. Always on time. Only "issue" Ive ever had in the 4 times we've used them is a couple of drivers giving me a little "lip" and shoulder shrug when I gave them a $5 tip. Not a biggie though. They are very reliable.
We've used USA Transfers for years. Never had any problems. The only issue we have is that if you book a return trip, they want to pick you up really early....like 3 or 4 hours before your flight leaves. Given the fact that the airport is just a few minutes away, we would prefer to be at the resort rather than hang out at the airport for several hours.
With USA Transfers it is private so when they send you the confirmation email for departure feel free to email them back a request for a later pickup. They will give you a spiel about how it is your responsibility to make your flight...but they will make it whatever time you decide. We can set up transfers for 4 people arriving then 2 separate departures of 2 people each for $95 to TTR. That is a common situation Just PM me your flight details and I can set it up for you. I guy I met in Cancun last month that didn't pre-book his transfers...just took a greenline taxi from the airport and they charged him $60 to Cancun Hotel Zone for 1 person 1 way. Maybe they charge what they can get away with...I don't know if they have set prices. Every time I go to the airport to pick someone up I am bombarded with taxi offers. They aren't supposed to do that but then again individual Federales (Mexican Police) are not supposed to own pirate transfer vans but they do. Bottom line, for inexpensive, safe & reliable transfers, book USA Transfers.
