3 years ago, my wife and I went to Temptations. We had some trouble with our passports scanning through customs. Both passports went thru the wash a few years before. (Oops!). We went on a cruise and never had any issues. We also didn't have any issues coming home. Mexico was the only place that we had trouble with them scanning the passports. Eventually, after trying several different scanning machines, both passports did scan. Has anyone else had this problem recently? Do they still scan the face of the passport instead of the barcode? It would be a big pain and expense to replace our passports that are not expired. It would be a much bigger problem if they do not let us into Mexico. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.

I would suggest you get new ones.

My advice is go get a new one, it's really up to the person at customs whether they allow you in (or even at the airport to get on the flight coming down). I had a washed passport once and I had to cross my fingers too.

Ultimately it'll cost you a few bucks but it's worth the piece of mind.

I dont know about going into mexico but coming back into the US it might be a problem but they would allow you into the states, just might have to go through a few more steps at customs and immigration. they can type the numbers in its just a pain and most dont want to have to type all the info into the system. any other passport questions just pm me

We have been on 2 cruises since this happened. We have not had any trouble at any ports or getting back in th US. The only place we had an issue was Mexico. Every time we go thru customs, they swipe the barcode. For some reason in Mexico, they scanned the entire face of the passport. This is why we had the problem.

are passports went in the wash looked ok after the wash picture and all info ,just the cover was just a littel tattered..that is all that is needed for any customs canada,u.
s.a or mexico to refuse you entery into there country... trust me not worth the hassel. get NEW PASS PORTS... BUT if you do you WILL be black listed (at least in canada)the third time you will not get a new one ,,,,for 3 years ...and thats what i was told by canada customs, this year ( 2013).. good luck
