You really have to look at the anatomy of hangover and what causes it. There are plenty of wives tales and urban legend, and to be honest some of them help. But the basics are 1. Drink to much, most people know the point where they are going to get sick, shots add to this as do sugary drinks. 2. There is a difference in alcohols, typically more expensive liquors have been distilled and filtered more time leaving out more impurities. 3. Dehydration is one of the main culprits for hangovers, drink water before during and after. Its hard to remember but every third drink try a water. 4. Having food in the stomach before and during helps your body metabolize liquor slower and better. Food after the fact and soaking it up is a mere myth. Also fattening good, protein, complex carbs are better. Simple carbs like bread or pasta can actually make you feel worse. 5. Sleep. Drink a fifth go to bed at 4am get up at 8am your guaranteed a headache. Lastly if you do get a hangover there are many examples of witch craft as already explained, and some might help some. Some things to try to elevate the symptoms are things like TUMS, alka, seltzer, advil, try drinking a Gatorade, those tend to help with rehydrating and electrolytes. The best hang over idea is prevention NEVER take Tylenol while drinking or have booze in your stomach, its very very hard on your liver and can potentially kill your liver.
Ok so for like 20 years I've been eating lots of bread thinking that would help "soak" it up! LOL! Well you just squashed that. Could be the reason I get so sick! Thanks this is GREAT ADVICE and I will take it to heart. Especially the Tylenol thing. :icon_exclaim:
So, after lots, and I mean LOTS of practice, I think I've got it nailed down. 1. Five hour energy (or equivalent), you're looking for the B-vitamins, not the energy, although that is helpful too when at TTR. I typically take one around 5PM, then another at 10PM, and that gets me through the night. I've read warnings not to take more than 2 in a 24 hour period, since vitamin B can be toxic in super high doses 2. RecoverORS, mentioned earlier. One before bed in a glass of water. It's like pedialyte for adults. Great stuff. Laurie and I did this every day for our TTR trip (and at home too) and never had so much as a dull headache. People were seriously amazed at how fine we were the next day.
ok... so I actually sell hangover patches... namely because they work)...Brand name is Bytox anywy...did the research and it's basically a transdermal patch loaded with Vitamin B complex. So when you pack your Bubba mug, sex toys and costumes..drop in a bottle of Vitamin B complex... Take some at Dinner before you head out to power drink the evening away (that means breakfast for some of us....lol)....and try...try...try to drink some water along the way. Remember, you are trying to offset that the booze is doing to you in real time and there is no way to offset drinking the whole bar at one go. It does reduce "wanting to die" down to "needing Tylenol"...and if you drink normally ...you wake up clear and thirsty. Hope this helps a few folks! if you wake up with a patch stuck to you somewhere...before you assume you quit smoking last night...someone may have stuck a bytox on you ...lol
By the way, I forgot to mention in my comments earlier that "you suck!" :bootyshake:- all you guys out there that do not ever get hangovers - how fair is that?:sauer005: I am like Becky, a little bit of this:mnm: leads to a lot of this:aktion060:. Becky, if the patches work - each night i'll patch you if you patch me!:azzangel: Jim
Patches? We don't need no steenking patches! Actually they sound very interesting and I would like to know how well they work out! 'Cause I'm the one that gets the hangovers.:bash: Could lead to some interesting games of "find the patch" :icon_twisted: George
