Jeans are fine - well fitting, not stained + closed toe shoes. Never seen anyone get turned down for jeans. We would prefers guys in board shorts, flip-flops, and tank tops be asked to change to something a bit more appropriate or hit the buffet or Margaritas but last time we were there pretty much anything went at the reservation restaurants. Rules are definitely more relaxed than years past but you never know when the rules will change back. For the ladies, pretty much anything goes at dinner so long as its appropriate. Use your best judgement and you'll be fine.
Why we wish the dress code should be enforced. We go to the nice sit down dinners each night for a reason. Romance, atmosphere, being treated like a big wig, a break from reality. While we are not poor, we do not have many chances in our lives to dress up and eat at white table cloth settings. So we believe its respectful to others to dress up. Just because someone else thinks shorts, t-shirt, and flip flops are ok, it does make the whole experience for us not as nice when we are dinning and see non dressed up dinners. If you don't want to dress up, then be respectful to other who want the atmosphere of feeling like there rich and famous.
The Italian restaurant is the only one we ever witnessed the host refuse to honor a reservation due clothing. He did it 2 times during one meal we had there. Each time it was a group of guys. One group was decently dressed just in shorts the other group came in Ts and athletic pants. He did allow them to dine at the tables outside. After he refused the groups of guys we watched several couples leave at various times and the guy in most of those couples had on shorts and sandals... so guess it's up to the host, with a hot chick shorts ok, with a group of dudes, shorts not ok..
I don't bring pants to hot climates. I do have some nice Tommy Bahama silk shorts and dressier shirts I wear to dinner so I'm not a total slob. If my hairy legs and tattoos are interfering in any way with your enjoyment then you date is not wearing a low enough cut top I like to err more on the "to each their own" side of things in life.
Yeah I tend to agree Andrew! Sure I'll wear shorts, but like I said they are nicer shorts, no camo designs and a button up shirt (my favorites tend to be bowling style button up ones now a la what Charlie Sheen used to wear on Two and a Half men). Frankly really not too much different than wearing Khakis, just more comfortable!
I like the way your thinking, I suppose its ok to pee in the pool or take someone elses seat at the pool, or break in line at bar.
The resort has rules for a reason, for safety and the enjoyment of there customers. The rules are known before you get there, I f you do not want to dress up then don't go to the places that have dress code
Me wearing shorts is hardly a safety issue and like I said, if me wearing a nice pair of shorts and a shirt which cost over $300 together is really interfering with your enjoyment then you really need to take a step back and re-evaluate. You can wear a tuxedo if you like but don't try and foist your standards on me, I paid the same for my vacation as you did.
I wouldn't consider wearing nice looking shorts vs. pants to be too bit of a deal. And really once you are seated it's not like anyone can tell if you're wearing pants or not lol! And I can't really see how someone dressed in nice shorts vs pants could detract from your dining experience. Just my two cents
