Agreed Mat. If you know what ailment you have and know what you need, but cant get the meds without prescription then a Simi is fine. Anything unknown I'd go elsewhere.
Anything "unknown", I go to a "real" doctor or even a specialist, not Red Cross OR SIMI. SIMI doctors always recommend to me that I follow up with my doctor or a specialist.
I've now been back to the SIMI doctors several more times, and I have to say I'm more or less impressed. It's fast, economical, and the doctors at least as professional as the ones I've encountered at Hospiten and Galenia Hospitals, and more than those I've encountered at IMSS.
went to simi yesterday for a rash and itching i have had for about a month. i had no ideas what it might be. after about 30 seconds of looking at it the doctor told me what it was and wrote a prescription. Total cost for the meds was 67 pesos but that was with a 25% discount given all day yesterday. used the meds as directed last night and i can already see and feel a difference. next time i need medical treatment i will definitely go back.
Been buying Lertus for my sciatica at Walmart...370 pesos for 20 pills. Bought the generic at SIMI today....60 pills for 90 pesos.
I have to admit bias on my end also especially with complete unknows but we've had some amazing IMSS docs and lousy private practice docs (couldn't find a completely collapsed lung) and recently tried the Simi doc for an unknown. an US ER nurse here said it looked like Bell palsy but she was mystified. I had a droopy eye and some facial swelling but only 1/2 the face. doc said it was an allergic reaction (even though the suspected food was eaten DAYS ago) and that my entire face would eventually swell and to be very careful of anaphalaxis and to come back the next day. i figured he was crazy and ignored his advice. rest of face swelled up by the next day. day after i had anaphalaxis and had to get ER treatment as my throat started to swell from food I'd eaten (by then) some 4 days prior. um.., I'll be going back to him.
I hope you're better, Kathy, but what a funny story! That doc would do credit to Dr House! with his amazingly skillful diagnosis. Those in the know will recognize this as drug resistance, the bane of the 21st century. I'm now on my forth antibiotic, hoping to hit one that will get the job done. They haven't given up on me, and I haven't given up on them!
I have been fighting this awful cough for almost 4 weeks. Going to Merida today and have an appt with a guy there. Going anyway on other business. Maybe this doc can take a fresh look. I am even wondering if I have some allergy to the ingredients in my morning one liter anti oxident smoothie. Blueberries, strawberries, spinach (I don't think it's any of these) homemade almond drink (water, cup of almonds, vanilla, cinnamon stick, agave), coconut water, hemp hearts, bee pollen, ground chia seeds and flaxseed, honey, 2 tsp coconut oil. Are there any red flags here to our amateur docs?
From someone who gets 5 allergy shots a month, try eliminating the 'bee pollen'. Some people, my Dad was, are very allergic to anything bees.
