I know there are a bunch of threads on wifi but I have not seen any of them ever mention our specific question. Has anyone ever used the wifi at the resort and then made a hot spot out of it for their other devices? For example, sign on to wifi with your cell phone and then make your cell a hot spot for a laptop or any other device you might want internet on? Will this work?
Why in the world would you need internet? YOU'RE AT Temptation!!!! Turn that s*** off and get a drink
Well I can understand that. But my suggestion is to just let go and trust they'll be fine. We have two young kids also and our first trip we called home everyday. Now we kiss them goodbye and call only once during the trip. The less you think about home while there the more fun you'll have :daveandmo:
OK, that's the first time I EVER Liked two posts in a row.... Good points, both. It is HARD to party, get crazy, get a bit naked, do body shots, chug beers upside down (yes, it's possible), play grab ass with the hot mess express (not got to do that yet), and generally make a fool of oneself in a fun way while one is seriously concerned, whether with basis or not, about the children. BTDT. Forgot to say that the coverage has always been light, and the bandwidth poor in comparison with what you'd get in .... hmm ... your average Starbucks. I don't think you'd be able to get a good video connection to go through, but I may be wrong on that. You could (I have) use the VIBER app to audio-only call to anywhwre that has internet connection, such as a kiddo's own phone with the app. We've called the friends in the U.K. from TTR before using that while on TTR's Wi-Fi.
If you signed on to WIFI with your cell phone wouldn't you be hit with your carriers international data rate? I have checked AT&T's int data plans and they are quite expensive. When we have traveled outside the US we have just used the hotel/resorts WIFI and Skyped calls back home. Cell phone usage beyond calls internationally are cost prohibitive to me.
There are setting to turn off your cell carriers data and just use the wifi for internet services. Airplane mode also works great for this.
What device (cell or tablet) do you have? Most device's hotspot only operates of the carrier's network not wifi, so you wouldn't be able to turn TTR's wifi into a hotspot function on your phone to supply wifi to other devices. If you can let me know what device and what carrier I can get you some specific info. I work for Sprint Corporate.
If you sign onto wifi you are not on a carrier's network (assuming wifi only and your network data settings are turned off) so no intl data rates would apply. Very easy to turn off the network data on a smartphone to make sure you don't ping a local carrier. Sometimes airplane mode will turn off wifi capability too (depending on the device).
