A local resort/hotel here had norovirus last fall... only way they could eradicate it was to shut down. I doubt you'll see TTR do that.
We don't need multiple threads about the same issue so I merged 3 similar threads together, as a result it may look a little disjointed. Please feel free to continue this discussion but don't start new threads about the same thing please.
My thoughts on the subject are that people get sick all the time on vacation, most of the time it is a combination of too much booze, too much sun, dehydration, different food and contrasts between cool air conditioned rooms and hot humid air outside. Normally a reported sickness shouldn't be considered too seriously as a problem for others. Clearly this time, it is something more than that and it appears to be contagious. This reminds me of April 2012 when something similar happened, it lasted about a week before all was back to normal. Management response was similar. The fact is none of us know for sure what it might be so it's probably best not to speculate. So far we've had water, ice, ice machine, food, pool water in drinks, norovirus, mold in rooms, flu, overfull pool contaminated due to the rain, flooding and probably more. Unless you're undertaking the testing and analysis then it is only speculation and it doesn't really help anyone to make guesses and just causes alarm. Folks are already cancelling trips that don't even start for another week. We should remember that this is not Jose's Taco street cart we're talking about here. The hotel are well aware of best practice for health and hygiene standards. They are accredited ISO 9000 and have procedures in place for any eventuality. You can bet there is plenty of work going on to isolate the problem and remedy it. Just because it is Mexico doesn't mean standards are any more relaxed than anywhere else in the World. No facility where large numbers of people congregate together - workplaces, hospitals, hotels, schools etc is immune from this kind of problem. I do think the hotel should be more open and honest about what's going on but experience has shown that is not how they deal with these matters, and when you see some of the almost hysterical posts here you begin to understand why they take the line they do. Has anyone thought to ask on their official Facebook page or Live Chat and see what their official response is? I can guess what it might be, but it might be a better conduit to bring concerns to their attention than letting unsubstantiated speculation run rampant here and then them just casting the whole cancuncare community as gossip mongers and trouble causers.
Ditto...then we will wake up the next day wondering if we got the virus or if it was from partying! LOL ~Jill~
I tend to agree with Steve, nothing to get too concerned about. People travel from all over the place to come to Cancun and Temptation. Whether it be something in the food, environment etc etc. I'd think it's only fair to get concerned if it were a common occurrence. The hotel doesn't have a track record of being horribly upfront on issues that may be problematic, so you have to take what they say with a grain of salt.
Agree also it is what i was trying to say on post 79 in a round sort of way we were newbies and we would go back next week if we could, staff and people that go are all great and fun.:xyxthumbs::daveandmo:
We were there in May and Tony got SEVERALLY sick.. I've never seen him have stomach pains/cramps the way he did. I got him every type of stomach meds you could think of and nothing helped. We were on the verge of calling a doctor for him it was that bad. I (Lisa) am usually the one who gets sick on vacations I have a bad stomach normally and I did get sick, however Tony has never had an issue before this on vacations. A few of our friends were also ill on our stay at the end of May.
