If you order water at any of the bars, it comes out of that hose-dispenser thingie. In the past, many of these things are caused by water (not bottled). Or more specifically, ice. If there's some virus or pathogen in the ice-maker, it could hit a lot of people. We tried really hard to isolate the common denominator, but simply couldn't. The only common denominator was that lots of people got sick. We still had a good time though. I really think the CCC crowd is what makes the trip best.
Who's making excuses? I think everyone is acknowledging the issue but are also trying not to be all Chicken Little about it and are suggesting that the resort is doing as much as it can to deal with an issue that happens in many places with a virus that's really hard to knock out. Short of closing the resort for a few days and pissing off hundreds of uninsured travelers I don't know what else they're supposed to do. If you are worried about contracting some sort of illness while on vacation in a foreign country I suggest you stay at home. Unfortunately visiting a place where hundreds, if not thousands, of strangers congregate from many locations and share amenities you are bound to have some outbreaks.
I gave them $5 tip a day with a note saying more water please and got 3 huge bottles of water a day. I would store the extras we didnt use in the suitcase. At the end of the trip I had a suitcase full of water (whoops). The point is you can get it if you want it without too much inconvenience. I agree with the earlier post that the water might be the wrong focus but hey no one really ever knows so we always do our best to minimize the chances.
Yep! We usually leave the tip with a thank you note requesting extra water and towels. I use a translator to ensure I don't write anything too far off from what we actually need. Made that mistake once. :/ ~Shawna
