We're on our way home from our first trip... great time and great group of people. Biggest negative was the virus or bug that's going around. It hit nearly all of us in the CCC group, and we all lost a day or two. Some lost up to 5 days. We passed down the warning to those who have just arrived. And yes, outside of sanitation and hygiene, there's not much you can do.
We both ended up with sore stomachs etc towards the end of the week, thought it may have been the water? Had a great time though.
Sound like flu season to me. I always bring my Vitamin C and take two everyday as I work in the health field. In cancun it just keeps me from losing my voice and keeps me healthy. Put flu, colds lack of sleep, airplanes and a buffet together and you get sick or illness. Also bringing your own bubba doesn't hurt either as you can avoid cups from the bar. I do get sick but it is totally self induced. Antivirus of Sambuca.
Stomach issue still plagues several guests today. ..severe cramps for them. Seems to be common and the eleven I chatted with have been here from 5 days ago to yesterday morning.
We just got back tonight, and we were there for Nick and Steph's issues with TTR. We had a great trip, met wonderful people, and loved it! But we fell prey to the same bug. It ran through pretty much the entire CCC crowd while we were there (6-13 June). We all tried to isolate the cause by comparing notes of what we had eaten, but simply couldn't find a common denominator. The best theories have already been somewhat discussed...water/ice, excessive rain...and we've learned it's not just TTR, but some other resorts as well. The 12 June Boobs Cruise took a big hit from this, since there were so many people that were sick and simply couldn't make it. For example, If anyone knows Joe and Kathy (Joedog1968), you know they wouldn't miss a Boobs Cruise!
Good luck anyone going in the next month. I've only ever had serious stomach virus once when I was a teenager, and I caught it from a local council-run swimming pool. If I can add anything to the 'bring Lysol and wash everything down' advice, it would be to be extra vigilant keeping the swimming pool water out of your drink, don't swallow any of it, and use your own cup. May be a good precaution to only drink bottled water and skip the ice for a while?
As good as this advice is, Norovirus is airborne and very contagious. If your're going to get it, you're going to get it! GoGo - Microbiologist
Yep, and the Noro Virus running rampant through TTR is just about the worst possible scenario for guests headed down for the next month or so. With so many groups stays overlapping every week the virus can be easily passed along to incomers, essentially over and over one group to the next. On the flip, Montezuma's caused by flooding rains screwing up the resorts water filtration system would have been much much easier to "fix"! Ugh, what to do? We're keeping all options open for now.
I count on the dozen or so limes that are in my mug at the end of the day as my source of Vitamin C !
