Trip Report May 11-22 TTR-Desire :11 Days total of Paradise

Trip Report – Our vacation was in two parts – 5 nights at TTR and 6 nights at Desire RM. Having spent several years as part of the May group when it was BBG, we were looking forward to seeing some old and new friends. From our brief visit in late May 2011, we thought TTR was a bit different than the BBG experience, maybe due to having a different crowd there at the time, not sure but two nights was sufficient for us then.
We arrived earlier than we expected on Sat, May 11 around 11:50a, after Delta had moved our connecting flight time back a couple of weeks before, they then had the flight time moved up the day of. Not complaining about that, except we could have carpooled with all the cool folks but we still got there and first class! Yay!
Waited for our room, but only about an hour, by the time we ate a bite, changed, our room was ready. It was in the 5000 block, not too far from the pool, king bed (which was my only requirement) and on the 3rd floor. Clean and neat the entire time. No drawers really, but we were not planning on unpacking all the way so the shelves in the vanity were great for all our products.
Too many folks to even start listing, you all know who you are anyway. But those people were what made our TTR time so great. Days do blur, but each was fun in it’s on way. Saturday – drank a little too much, but a quick nap and we were out for dinner (thanks Step/Don for bringing us along) in the Italian and a little mingling at Paty O’s. Didn’t get up early enough for a chair on Sunday but hung around the pool, did a walk in at the Asian restaurant and was able to get seated (I think that was Sunday anyway). Monday, pool, drinks, and our favorite, CocoBongo! Had a blast with the group and even stayed up to 4:30am which is late if you know us two.
Tuesday, pool, drinks, etc, think we did the buffet for dinner? Wednesday was the booze cruise, great fun! Lots of highlights, me and Carole swimming in the water while Tony sternly told us we needed to get back on the boat LOL, the island, the fun at Posada del Mar Hotel, buying one round of shots then the bartender giving us several others for the photo opps! And, at some point back on the boat my arm slipping on the wet surface (swelled up like a balloon, still have the bruise up and down my arm almost two weeks later) but they graciously provided me with a ice and the party continued. That was our last night but loved the DJ in Paty O’s with all the dancing… great way to finish off the day. </SPAN>
Thursday we transferred to Desire around 1pm, hated to leave our great friends but were excited about our “quite couple time.” Of course it was pretty rowdy around the pool when we got there, which we didn’t expect, the entertainment team there works really hard to provide a fun atmosphere. Now, for those couples that have never been and have reservations about going because they think 1) it’s a swinger resort or 2) not as much of a party as TTR. Here is our feedback. We went to Desire to be with each other, and only each other. Not a problem. There may have been 2 or 3 people that even started a conversation with us, in passing, and none of it contained any reference to our intentions at Desire. For those that know us know that we are sociable folks and its not that we are withdrawn, we just had a great time talking with each other instead of others. Spent time getting to know the bartenders and staff, they are very friendly there and go to great lengths to make sure you are satisfied. Not that you can’t find that at TTR, but I did feel that the service was better, maybe they were not as overwhelmed as the bars seem to be at TTR, or maybe I am too busy socializing at TTR to notice or spend time getting to know the staff. We went Premier,(thanks to our good friend selling us her nights) and that really makes for an even better experience there. Our “Butler” made sure everything was perfect. He arranged a special dinner for Tony’s birthday and also champagne and a cake. We were able to get two 25 minute massages, a beach bed whenever we requested it and always seating around the pool. Other than that everyone was treated the same as far as I could see.
Friday we spent the morning around the pool, afternoon on a bed at the beach. The water is nice in both places. Drink service around the pool and at the beach beds is great. You really don’t even need to go up to the bar once it starts. The Asian restaurant Suki is our favorite, great food, service is like fine dining. Of course, we are early birds so going to dinner around 6:30p, we never had to wait very long, which I think is not the case when you go later. After dinner everyone hangs around the lobby bar (great bartenders there) and then usually a show. They had a wonderful entertainment, some really amazing acrobatics a couple of nights. We would go up to the disco around 10, before the shows were completely over and visit with the bartenders. They are very entertaining. The music would crank up pretty quick and the dance floor would fill up. If you like dancing, you will love the disco. There is a playroom next to it, never used it but that is an option. I don’t think I even looked in it this year, Tony did and said porn on the TV and a swing, which he didn’t think was there last time we visited. Anyway, the disco is very nice, not too hot or stuffy. The best part was around midnight going to the lobby bar and getting a made to order pizza (pepperoni and onions) and sometimes nachos (loved me some cheese!). Of course you would get a glimpse of Charlie the raccoon and maybe his family around that area, depending on who was making the pizza.
Saturday we decided to visit Desire Pearl. We took a taxi for $15 to the property, only took about 10 minutes. The lobby is large, very nice. The grounds are lush and make you feel secuded in a private garden (Desire RM is the same, only doesn’t seem as spread out as Pearl). One of the butlers showed us around and we saw the plain ocean view (they are all considered ocean view rooms) and it was very nice and modern. Then, we went up to the top floor and saw one of the penthouse suites. The view, the private huge balcony with your own dip pool…unbelievable. You wouldn’t need to leave your room.
The pool is nice, large, areas shallow enough to lay in the water, closer to the beach where you can just float and have a beach view at the same time. We got a chair around the pool and grabbed some lunch. Now, I have to say the lunch at Desire RM is much better but this was nice. It was good to see Omar and he encouraged us to participate in the Foam Beach Party that they were having so after lunch we headed to the beach side of the bar (the other side serves the pool) to await the start of the foam. Obviously this is the first time they have done this because it took all of two minutes for the wind to blow the foam, off the beach, into the bar which the bartenders quickly abandoned and into the pool. But, everyone in the pool just jumped around in it and enjoyed. It was certainly was entertaining and got the place moving. The machines went off and on for about 30 minutes. We didn’t go to the Jacuzzi but it was much larger than the one at RM and it was just behind the pool.
Around 2:30p, we got the bright idea to walk back to Desire RM on the beach. We knew it could be done even with the tide high. It gave us an opportunity to take pictures of other resorts along the way (great for family sharing on facebook). There were areas where the seaweed was yucky and it was rocky to climb over but we made it, probably around 3 miles I guess. We certainly were ready for a snack, drink and nap after that excursion. Overall, the Pearl is very nice, beautiful, would I pay more to stay there? Probably not, but a nice option to visit if you want to change things up while at Desire RM.
Sunday was Tony’s BD. He went to the gym for a bit that morning. The gym there is nice than at TTR, but still small. I arranged for room service to bring our breakfast to a beach bed and also went to the lobby bar to get two Mimosas for us to drink and the bartender insisted on sending a bottle of champagne, juice and glasses so we could make our own. It was a special time, us on the beautiful beach, eating a nice breakfast (naked) and drinking Mimosas… on our beach bed. And the day continued with a massage on the veranda outside at the beach around noon. Naked of course. Now, we are not much on going nude, but we would occasionally. Really more me than Tony which is a surprise but there it really doesn’t matter. A lot of people do it, and they don’t really care and nobody’s body is perfect by any means so I thought, why not? It can be a very freeing experience, especially at my age. So the day continued, we moved to the pool, I would occasionally ask for ice for my hand injury (from the TTR cruise incident lol) and Tony had to start the tequila shot thing, which I think I had one too many because as we were back at the beach bed that afternoon, him napping and me wobbling back and forth sitting up trying to read, I knew I wasn’t going to make it if I didn’t give in to the feeling of purge. So, back to the room for me. But, I was back in action later for his birthday dinner. We don’t eat lobster so they gave us one of the steaks on the special menu, which was good, but I wouldn’t pay extra for it otherwise. This was in the International restaurant. We ate there the night before off the regular menu and it was very good.
Lobby bar, disco then Tony wanted to go to the Jacuzzi for late night fun with just us. Actually there were not many folks at all up there so we were able to have a nice BD sex under the stars, then back to our room. Monday and Tuesday were pretty much the same, minus the visit to the Jacuzzi, spending time at the beach then at the pool. Monday night Suke was closed, so we did the buffet which was Steak night. Had fun with the servers dressed in their cowboy hats. And, they actually have cuts of steak and other meats they will cook for you. That was the best ribeye we had in a while, wish we could have ate more. By Tuesday we started to taper off the drinking because after 10 days, you really need a break! Our last night was the Foam Party at the Jacuzzi. They had great entertainment before they started it then the whole area filled with foam. Lights, music, it was fun dancing, of course, I had to be careful of my arm because if you bumped it or grabbed it the wrong way it hurt. So, we only spend a short time dancing before getting into the Jacuzzi to warm up then back to our room. Had plenty of time to pack on Wednesday since our ride didn’t come to 12:30p. Tony realized right before we left he didn’t have his immigration paper which we didn’t think much about, someone told us we could get another and thanks to our porter (had to get one since I couldn’t pull on the luggage with my bad hand) he took us around to get it, of course it cost an additional $30! Yep, of course we found the form later at home, tucked neatly in one of the inside pockets of one of our suitcases. Live and learn I guess. Other than that, everything was fine coming home, just a long day.
Sorry so long but wanted to give details on Desire since some folks are curious. 11 nights is a long vacation, maybe settle for 8 or 9 next year. We love our TTR friends, but really love Desire RM as far as vacation goes. Oh, and for those that like the party atmosphere, they do shots, games, maybe a little more adult style than frat style. Matter of fact, the first day there they were handing out jello shots around the pool. (not as good as Mel’s of course). The only minus factor is the cost is more but you do get more in the form of atmosphere, service, quality of liquor (top brands for everyone), and of course, no singles – which is good for couple time, but if you have friends that are singles, then you would miss them for sure. TTR - best breakfast, hands down (unless you get room service on the beach) and Desire lunch around the pool was my favorite of all.

Yep, somewhere in my foggy mind I remember engaging in a push up contest while waiting on that hamburger, with one of the London town fellows...which I am sure was quite a site, me in my orange spandex dress..BUT it can't beat the "what, you have no underwear on?", "oh don't worry, he can have mine," conversation with the doorman at the club, not to mention the walk of shame outside till they came up with a solution for one of us being "panty-less" LOL

Enjoyed the comparison of TTR to Desire. We have considered doing a part TTR, part Desire trip in October but are not 100% on the nudity thing. Sounds like you all did it part of the time and didnt feel obligated to do it when you didnt want to. And were able to do your own thing when you wanted or party when you didnt. Sounds like a good combo.
