When i normally go on my holidays I like to find somewhere that the locals eat, is their anywhere like that in the hotel zone, or will i have to travel to downtown cancun? Because i would love me some genuine street meat tacos.

On the way from the Airport to the resort you will pass by numerous taquerias. Ask your driver to stop at a good one and buy him lunch for stopping.

Al Pastor tacos at the buffet during lunch are pretty tasty and very authentic - after all the cooks are all Mexican. We'd like to find good Oaxacan place in Cancun.

Best authentic Mexican food we've ever had is still right here in California - quality of our ingredients is just so much better than Mexicos.

El Fish Fritanga claims to be one of those places you describe... Haven't tried it yet but plan to this summer. Several reviews of it on tripadvisor.com

Fish Fritanga is a seafood restaurant in the HZ that lots of locals eat at, good prices for the HZ.

If you want real "street meat" tacos then next to La Taberna in downtown there is a road with food carts on it selling tacos - I'm not sure if they are good or if they taste good cause you've had a shed load of beer (similar to a kebab situation in England). :)

If its still there, I went to an awesome restaurant in downtown Cancun called la habichuela. That was one of the best meals I've had in Mexico. Also this may sound weird, but try a Vips. It's like a Mexican version of eat n park or similar and their food is great!
