Los Tigres play a three game series with the Piratas of Campeche this weekend. Get out to see a game if you can. It looks like they are now in second place in the southern division, behind Ciudad del Carmen, if I can understand the new website! Calendario
Actually, I went last night, my first time ever. The whole thing is very festive, as the beer and food hawkers are almost as enjoyable as the game! Sadly, we lost 8-1.
We've got 'em covered this weekend, then, Davi. You went Friday, I went Saturday, and T.J. says he's planning to be there tonight. It was a bit of a struggle but the Tigres won last night, 10-9. Sunday games are usually at 6 PM, for those who might like to plan to attend.
Yes, TJ is leaving shortly for the 6 pm game. We have serious pitching problems. Giving up way too many runs. That started early in the season and has not really stopped. As V knows, when the crowd is cheering TIGRES, it almost sounds like TEEEEJAAAY. One of my little friends, who is now 8, pointed that out when she was 3 and her parents and I don't let her forget it.
Hmm. I wrote a column (not really) last night but it did not make it to the board. Canti, our 3rd baseman, hit a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 9th. Game over. We were up 3-1 but they scrambled back to tie it up late in the game. Pollo made an unbelievable, running one hand catch of a foul ball in the upper deck. I thought for sure he was going over the wall to below as his balance was impaired. He stretched to reach it and held on. For you unwashed, Pollo is the unofficial mascot. Chacho is the official one but Pollo has a chicken suit now, a gift from Chacho last season. He moves all over the stands leading cheers.
Call him what you want - annoying, etc - after that gutsy play, just don't call him a yellow bellied chicken............lmfao
It was really an amazing play. A high foul ball over the backstop. Took a high bounce and was heading back toward the lower level. Out of nowhere here comes Pollo sprinting to make the play. In full stride he reaches far over the retaining wall or a one-handed gram not even using his gloves hand. Oh wait, he did not have a glove. Just moments before, the Piratas third baseman made a great play on a foul ball but Pollo's was the play of the day. Honestly, it would not have surprised me and he gone cartwheeling over the wall. The crowd was watching as she was running toward the ball. OMG it's Pollo could be heard. Is that play happened in the states, he would be on ESPN's play of the day
The games must be being broadcast live somewhere: I saw a few professional video cameras on tripods close to the action. His catch might make ESPN Mexico.
