No, as V says, and I tried to say, one would need to find a foreign, i.e. Non-Mexican buyer, and drive to the border where the PIT would be turned in. Then the new owner would enter and obtain his or her own permit. The purposes are two. One to get the permit out of my name and two to get the permit out of my name.
Hey Jeff, You will love this. A broker at the Matamoros border now has given me a price of $1,800 USD for all in. It started at $1,700 and $50 was added two times. This is down from the nearly $45k and $40k that I got with the link you sent. BUT, in spite of 4 emails asking the details of the $1,700, I have yet to get an answer. Yesterday, I even made like a list, showing the two $50 items, that I ,understand and putting blank lines in column headings for both dollars and pesos so that every single cost element can be listed. Still I did not get a straight answer. Nor have I gotten any answer as to why the costs from a governmental agency are quoted in dollars instead of pesos. Of course hotels here price in dollars but convert to pesos on your bill, but this is a gov't function. Plus, this would require a day each way drive, 2 days (according to him) in Matamoros and the unknown things that could come up. Methinks it will be so much easier to find a gringo and sell it to him or her, making the quick trip to Belize. I also think that there is something rotten in Matamoros.
TJ.... Stand By, I have put my money where my mouth is - and have paid the Lawyer/Broker to go ahead and Nationalize my Navigator. He says 2 to 3 weeks to process and then I will have my Mexican registration and plates. Keeping my fingers crossed.....
Hi Jeffandshannan, Can you post the name, phone number and email address of the lawyer/bróker that you are using? Thank you.
Good Luck Jeff. Standing by with my fingers crossed for you. What kinds of forms and paperwork have you had to furnish so far?
thsman and TJ; Documents they required was viewing then taking copies of PP and FMIII, taking the Customs sticker paper (not the sticker off the windshield, just the paper) and title of the vehicle. They did ask for the "original bill of sale" (if you have lost yours, Government (US and Canada) forms are online and you should be able to sort that. Other than this, just the cash! I supply the following as I have been impressed so far, However, I am not yet "endorsing" until I have the Mexican plates and the vehicle off my FMIII - Will advise as soon as done. Anyone tried to use this website to find out how much customs duties to expect? Cotizador de importación de vehículos para paisanos
I wonder if there are any readers who could try plugging in their VIN on the website contained in the previous post to see how well it works for the purpose of getting the amount of customs duties that would be charged?
See posts 7, 12 and 22. Link first was posted back on #7 and it looks like T.J. is waiting for a response.
Thanks Mole. V had asked me privately about this link. What I now remember is going thru the process, only to get a form email stating tat they were not taking an applications at this time. So V, there you have it, or don't have it as it appears is the case.
