Hi all...we're doing our second trip back to TTR in August; last time, we did the airport transfer thing (through Best Day, which worked out fine) but was looking at now either using the highly recommended USA Transfer company or possibly even renting a car. I notice that they are dirt cheap to rent and thought if we had our own car we would maybe venture out a little bit more. Just wondering if anyone rented before and what the pros/cons might be. It'd be nice to not worry about finding a ride back from the clubs and maybe even doing an excursion on our own. However, we went to Ireland last year for our honeymoon and drove all over the country for 10 days, but something tells be that a jaunt through Mexico wouldn't be as enjoyable. Thanks in advance for your wisdom! Cheers!
Honestly, the way people drive there, i'd skip the rental car and just use USA Transfers. I heard somebody mention that you can also hire a driver for the day for fairly cheap if you want to do a day venture out..
We use USA Transfers and it has worked out great. I would NOT want to be driving down there if I could avoid it
read recently read they do not honor your insurance and the low rates they quote you climb. who want s to drive while vacationing ? better to drink and cab it
USA Transfers all the way. We have been going to Mexico for years and always say you would be taking your life in your hands if you rented a car. CRAZY drivers and every year it seems to get noticeably worse. The rentals are probably cheap for a reason, to lure you in and then...LOOK OUT! LOL
USA Transfers all the way, the bus and taxi are cheap enough. Ya know, they are crazy drivers down there but Ive never seen an accident, I still wouldn't want to drive there
I agree, I would not want to drive while there. USA transfer for Airport arrival/departure and a driver/ cab for other excursions.
You couldnt pay me to drive in Cancun..looks scary AF...USA Transfers and buses are perfectly fine with us
I made the mistake of renting a car my first trip to Cancun. Granted, it was not to Temptation, but it was Cancun and Mexican driving nonetheless. It was *horrible*. Between the armed police people that were on the side of the road, the reading road signs in Spanish, and wondering if we were going to get carjacked, it was very stressful. Plus, for us, we ran the risk of drinking and driving - and combine that with being in MEXICO while drinking and driving? Oy, too many possibilities for problems! Plus, we had to fill up at a Mexican gas station, which was strange and stressful all in itself. So... from that lesson, I have learned to (a) always get an airport transfer by a reputable company and (b) never rent a car in Mexico. Taxi's all the way!
