Ok, I know vacation is about not being able to be contacted and not spending time on your phone or the norm but, do any of you take your phones? Especially parents? Do you call to check in on your kids and are there different rates or anything I should know of. I am a first time flyer, traveler, TTR goer and I don't want to be wrong on too many things. Greg says he isn't taking his phone, but we have 4 little kids I feel we should check in on. I'm having a hard time finding a place to order AIWC. Any suggestions? Also: is it true you can bring a carry on and a "backpack". If so, how large can they be? This excites me as i could fill his carry on with my shoes, mine with a few of our outfits incase luggage gets lost and we should only have to check one suitcase! I thought there was something else, but I am a little scatter brained this morning as it is our anniversary (aww, yey us! ), we are trying to move into a new house before the trip, and I have finals next week. eeek! Although it will be crazy, it will make these 2 weeks fly by I'm sure! Thanks guys!
If you do bring your phone, call your cellular provider and get put on a temporary international plan. I try to avoid using mine.. Yes you can do a carry on and a backpack. A regular sized backpack, not a hiking pack.
Yes, make sure you get with your provider to let them know you will be in Mexico. I think it cost us like $20 for 10 days. We did this last time, however, I sent my son a picture via text and got a huge bill when I got home. Make sure you know what is and is not included in the international package. What is AIWC? We are newbies too and wont be going till October, but I really wondering what all the fuss is about. I see it mentioned all the time on here.
It depends on the airline. The airline we just flew with considered a backpack a carry on. Most consider it a personal item though. The website for your airline will have that info. If it doesn't specify, consider it a personal item.
For our trip to TTR, I went down to Walmart, bought the $15 GoPhone and a $25 usage card. Used it for 5 days and still had time left. Just make sure you "activate" the phone here in the US.
You're all very lucky...from UK we can only bring 1 carry on. Thing is, they can't stop you bringing tons of stuff in pockets yet. My boss went on vacation not long ago, and his carry on was too heavy. He pulled a load of stuff out his bag, put it in his pockets, between arms etc, and they weighed the bag again until it was under...then he went through the security gate and put all that stuff right back in his bag again! Motto is, carry what you can, then put it into your carry on case when you're past security.
I'm flying USAir!! And i'm allow a carry on( Under 21ins.) and a personal item which will be my backpack. It's a small backpack to carry my I pod/Kindle/Camera/Snacks/Magazine...plus outs and ends from last minute packing..LOL:icon_mrgreen: Check with ur airline. Don't forget to do Express Check in on the Temptations website...It will make things quicker once u check in! :icon_wink:
