I agree on the dessert front, they do favour the weird non-cheesecake tasting cheesecake. Fresh fruit is really nice and always fresh though. I can't buy strawberries at home because I get through half the packet and I'm sick of them, but in Cancun I can eat as many as I like without wasting them! The muffins at breakfast a quite nice, so just kept a few of them back from breakfast to snack on during the day.
What a shame that large groups of singles had such a negative impact on your trip !! Hopefully the resort noticed the higher amount of single guys and do something about it? Hope you return to see that TTR could be an awesome experience!
We were there 3/16-3/23 there was a lot of singles there but they left us alone. Never found bad food but we've been there before so we know what's good and bad. You would have had a better time if you would have met people. We have no plans on going back in March though. February was better but we loved the people we met so I'm glad we went in March.
I've never been to a Mexican resort that had good dessert. It all looks marvelous, but has the taste and texture of a bathroom sponge. It's one of the great mysteries of Mexico.
I think it has to be either the ingredients or the tropical climate, probably ingredients mostly (oils, flour etc)
Excellent and honest TR. I think that most of us have had some of the same issues, with the exception of the crowd only being 40% couples. Try TTR another time of the year, and some of the things you don't like won't be so noticeable. Remember that the resort is only $200 (or less) per night. We have all paid way more than that at other resorts, and still have had some of the same issues. I had to laugh about the desert comments. How can something that looks so incredible, taste like a bathroom sponge!
We just got back and definately agree that mid to late March there are a lot of single guys especially from the UK? Never had any issues with them though this trip. They seemed to keep to themselves. The food... everybody is different but this is our 6th trip and like Meandher know what to avoid? We took a newbie couple and they as well as us thought that the food was fabulous. This trip we only went to the buffet once for supper and the a la cartes every other night. I think that's what made the difference cause when we were there in Nov. the buffet at night was BAD. Otherwise we thought the food during the day was great. We did do a PatyO burger one night and surprisingly it did taste like a great charbroiled burger not the usual "exotic" lol!
I'll give you this much, GoGo: it's edible, but doesn't even compare favourably to any packaged brownie I can buy at my local grocery store. The British have never been known for their cuisine...
