Our favorite day trips so far would include Xel Ha, Xcaret, Isla Mujeres and The Jungle Place.
Xel Ha seems pricey, but it includes literally everything you might want. Food, drink, all equipment needed, etc.
Xcaret is not so AI, but takes pretty good care of you.
We do Isla Mujeres as individuals and explore the island by golf cart and eat where and when we choose. There are many simple places of interest dotting the island and you can get snorkel equipment at the hotel just to the north of Garrafon park. There is plenty of shopping available too.
"The Jungle Place" is a spider monkey sanctuary just south of Akumal and into the jungle. I suggest looking it up online and getting info.
Also, Akumal is a beautiful little beach village south of Playa del Carmen with plenty to keep a couple occupied for a day. Being from Colorado, I'd say that Akumal is the "Aspen" of the Yucatan.

Agree with most others on here, take a little time to explore, even if it's just an afternoon at market 28. It's a beautiful place, you may as well experience all you can!

As we said above, this will be our second trip to TTR so we know exactly what to expect and as we're there for 2 weeks we would defo like to go and take a day or so out. Personally, although we enjoy the buzz and fun at night, we preferred to stay around the quiet pool or the beach in the day - Gave us chance to relax.

Thanks SeanandTina and Donald for understanding us

How do people go to TTR for a week and never leave the resort...The sexy pool is fun and all but theres other stuff to see and do in Cancun...When we go for a week we spend 4 days at the sexy pool and 3 days off the property doing excursions, shopping, eating, etc

So..... why do people spend their hard earned cash on an "all inclusive holiday" and spend half of it off resort, spending more cash on food and drink they've already paid for! We have done 21 days at TTR and not moved. Guess we're all different!

Last trip a month ago we only "left" the resort for the Boobs Cruise and to rent wave runners - cost $45 from the dudes by the sexy pool and they let us stay out for over an hour (supposed to be only 40 minutes for that price). We tipped the guys by the dock $10 and they were super cool.

We did the bus tour to Chichen Itza in Jan 2012 and I would not recommend doing that big tour - better to spend the money on a private tour!!!
