Have done it lots of times, at night even. Jamaicans will hassle you but not harm you. Tourism is king, dont threaten the king. Ever see Jamaican vigilantism? trust me it exsists. Felt safer in downtown Negril at 2 am than in anywhere else we have been in the Carrib. THIS is from experience.

we are all done Jamiaca, much better places to spend money and time

If I traveled by myself or with a friend I might agree with you - no way I am risking my wife in a bikini down the end of that beach again

Windham is correct !!! Jamaican drug dealers totally disrespect women (either Jamican, American, Canadian , etc). We had 8 drug dealers approach us in 10 minutes !!! Forewarned is forearmed !! IF you go to Negril, stay on Bloody Bay. not Long Bay. You will discover ALL of the supporters of that section of beach are either:
Jamaicans, married to Jamaicans, have businesses in Jamaica. Cancun care is one of the most honest forums on the internet !!!

umm.. I go to Negril every year.. I am a woman.. I walk all of Negril and love every bit. I walk the cliffs, and the beach.. I have been going there for years and I gotta say I am not a Jamaican, married to a Jamaican, nor do I have a business in Jamaica..
I love Long Bay, and Bloody Bay.Long Bay more so though. There are some amazing places to chill, eat, drink, and stay all up and down the beach and cliffs. Depending on what kind of vacation you want and your attitude, and ability to think city smaht (smart for non Boston people)
You know I hardly get bugged by the peddlers/ dealers anymore.. You know why.. I got swagger.. lol.
No really, I carry myself different..
I have vacationed there alone with my son when he was 13, and on.. He's 18 now..
And he can't wait to get back.
Rule #1 in Negril= NEVER SAY YOU LEFT THE $$$ IN YOUR ROOM..
    JUST SAY NO
period.. No.. Don't stop.. Walk. No thank you..

    Other rules
-Separate your $$in your front pockets and only take what you need
    -Don't wear flashy jewlery
    -Don't flash your $$
-Never give a haggler an inch if you have no intention of buying. You will not hurt their feelings by saying no and walking
and these rules should be used anywhere//
I have seen more issues in Vegas than the many times in Jamaica..
Its all perception and what situations you allow to happen..

this seems like the story where the couple are lost on CNN while on a romantic trip to mexico. Im not being saying to be scared, but your in a country where kidnap, extortion is the name of the game. Stay public with a group specially at night.

We have been to Bloody Bay 9-10 times and always enjoyed oursleves. One trip down south and we are on the Temptations (Cancun) forum.
The 7 mile beach is great, but just not worth the hassle.

My wife was ready to leave after 6 hours !!! We were raised in the 60s, so don't mind the Ganja, but the Coke, Crack and Heroin were just plain too much !!! Some local drug dealer (with mental issues) named "the Muchroom Man", just really upset my wife to the point where it was
"thank goodness Delta is ready when we are".

Ok, so you were afraid. That still does not mean Negril is not safe.
