My GF and I have booked our first stay with TTR for this spring. We are not familiar with Cancun, we would like to understand if it's possible and safe to walk from TTR to the other hotspots on the Cancun strip? I understand that TTR is closer to downtown Cancun, the area to stay away from.

It seems the trip from TTR to Senior Frogs is 3.8 miles, or about 1.5 hours by foot. It is relatively safe to walk to the area where Senior Frogs is, and are there even sidewalks to make this walk?

We are clueless, that's why we're asking. Safety is obviously very important.

    Thanks!

If safety is important, then take taxis or the bus. Why risk it just to save a few dollars?

Besides whatever trouble you may or may not encounter from your fellow humans, our last trip was ruined when a dog came up out of nowhere to L and bit her on the leg while walking along the sidewalk. This was a totally random occurrence that required a visit to a clinic in Cancun, and then a series of anti-rabies shots once in the US.

    Don't risk it.

As far as people go, I wouldn't be worried. the strip for the hotel zone is heavily patrolled and there are good walking / bike paths. I would think that animal enounters are rare but it's something to think about as L&E said

but we didnt feel unsafe and we took the bus back.. maybe we were just unaware it was a good walk though..

well i do feel naked myself being any were without a knife or even a tactical pen ect..but thats just from years in the army and security/LE fields, but the HZ is very well patroled and is safer then walking some streets in the U.S. you just have to be smart about things no dark alleys side streets , don't flash alot of cash, don't carry your passport, make a copy and have that on you, be aware of whats around you ect.....

We have been to Cancun a few times, staying at different hotels along the hotel zone. Unlike what you read, we have always felt safe here. We have usually traveled by bus going to the mall, hard rock, ect in downtown, which cost about 75 cents in us money each way, and never had a problem!
The bus stops all along the hotel zone and downtown for a few pesos.
I have also seen many runners at dawn running the sidewalks...who have told us, they have never had a problem. Obviously, you must keep ur eyes open.
Walk if you want, or take the bus. Just let the driver know where you want to go..

It is definitely possible and safe to walk to those locations. But for about 75-cents, you are better off taking the bus. Cancun has the easiest to use bus system in all the world.

The bus is better in the high heat and humidity. I run half marathons, so 3.5 miles is a 25 minute cakewalk (or run), but not in that heat! The bus is clean, cheap, has A/C, and runs every few minutes.

Our first trip to Cancun we stayed much further down in the hotel zone at a different (boring) resort. We walked just a bit down to a little flea market/mall place, but it was only a couple blocks from the hotel. Never felt unsafe and there were side walks. However, you must watch for traffic when crossing because they could really care less that you are in the street. My ankle twisted stepping off a curb and I thought I was going to be hit by a speeding car. We also took the bus down to the water park. The bus is nice and was very easy to use. It was mostly local hotel staff using it. I would recommend the bus for any distances beyond a few blocks for traffic safety and just because when I'm on vacation I'm lazy and have no intention of walking 1.5 hours to anywhere lol

Oh and I agree with everyone else. The bus is very inexpensive.
