    Hello all,

Topic that I'm sure has been covered many times, dollars vs pesos for tipping around TTR.

Last year we brought new pesos with us for all our tipping around TTR. It was great for the sexy pool because the bills were somewhat waterproof and could last being in my bathing suit pocket all day.

This year we're planning on taking dollars and I'm wondering what everyone is doing to keep them from getting wet while at the sexy pool swim up bar?

Considering we slept in and didn't get a chair around the pool to put our stuff on.

I can't remember from last year and can't amagine the bartenders like soggy dollar bills.

Hey fellow Vancouverites! It's great to see more Vancouver peeps turning up on the board! :aktion033:

Don't worry re: soggy. Tips are tips, wet or dry they are always welcome. I am going to try bringing pesos this April though. Go to the Vancouver Bullion & Currency Exchange on Granville at about 10th Ave for the best exchange rate on any currency.

    Hey Karen,

Yes we went to the bullion exchange downtown last year, is it a better exchange than exchanging from ATMs in the banks in Cancun?

    I didn't mind dealing/tipping with
Pesos, but it seemed that mostly everything was quoted in dollars at the resort and in town at the markets, bars, restaurants.

Haven't tried exchanging currency in Cancun, but I'm sure someone else on the boards will post to help you with that.

I am going to bring dollars for everything but tipping, which means dollars just for the Boobs Cruises and Coco Bongo tix, as I don't leave the resort otherwise. It's hard to find better fun than the sexy pool!

havent been to TTRT going this fall. But everytime I have been in Mexico dollars are fine. I wouldnt go through the hassle of carrying around a bunch of pesos specially since its 12-1 exchange rate right now. 1 peso is not a huge tip.

From everything I know they make around $100-$400 US dollars a week depending on position which is 14-57 bucks a day. So really a $1 US tip is pretty good. Personally I like to just hand out $5 bills to the few people I like at the begining to get the service I like then intermittenly $1 bills to keep it up

The resort usually has a pretty good exchange rate for USD. I have been tippiung the bartenders with wet money for as long as I can remember, somedays that ends about 3pm, don't remember the end of the day. They take the wet money just the same

That's a big NO - don't bring or use US, Canadian, etc coins - the locals cannot spend them for anything or exchange them for pesos !

I've done both...pesos and usd...pesos are good if you plan on tipping from the pool and you want to spread it out. Dollars are better in general it seems. I've often just dropped $5, $10, or $20 to the pool bartender. If you want to tip the ladies walking/rollerblading around the pool, then pesos or singles work better.
Bar at night USD or pesos work, but you don't have to worry about keeping them dry.

The bartenders often had wet US dollars just hanging to air dry. I'm sure they appreciate anything. Although it is a little tough separating the bills once they are wet in your shorts pocket.
