I really think the flu shot is a personal decision and to say somthing like that is ... :aktion051:well ... that just pisses me off.:ranting1:
I was told that I could have "flu like" symptoms when I got it. It was way beyond that. Went to the doctor and they said it was due to the shot. Getting the shot is a personal choice and you just have to look at the pros and cons. For me personally, the risks far out weigh the benefits. I've actually not seen a benefit to it personally. Has nothing to do with being lazy or whatever. Has to do with making the decision that you feel is best for yourself and your family. But again with the original post...never gotten sick in Mexico. I think just taking care of yourself, making smart choices, and being aware of your surroundings is more important than any shot ever will be.
Nope, eat eggs all the time. Not allergic to much at all, including the shot or anything in it. Doctor said it was a side effect of the shot and not an allergic reaction. He said it was actually common with the shot to get a bad case of the flu after. Still haven't gotten the shot since, and haven't been that sick since.
I don't think so Donald, as you said it is controversial and I can think of alot better things to do while at Temptations than discuss personal choices. As for the flu at Cancun, we've been I think 8 times and never had the flu, however we did get a really bad chest colds last April. Someone suggested to us to bring a can of Lysol and spray our air conditioner vents, which we have and will continue to do. As far as a flu shot... the choice is yours.
Wow, I blew right past his comment or I would have responded. I give flu shots all season long. I have access to free shots but I am not going to be pressured into a government run guilt trip so someday I can deal with the possible side effects of the vaccine. I live in a part of the USA where Influenza was almost an epidemic. Every single person who I know that was diagnosed with Influenza had gotten the seasonal flu shot. I am very healthy, eat well, exercise and practice good hygiene. The Mexican bug that at least 40 + people picked up at TTR two years ago was most likely attributed to the glasses used for drinks. Have you seen the way they are washed? No FDA Flu shot would have helped anyone. I can probably find the thread where we talked about it. No one likes to say they got sick at this resort but it happened and to a lot of people. It's not stopping me from going....I just try to always have my own cup with me now.
A doctor prescribed Thalidomide to my mother in the 60's... thankfully she was either lazy or didn't feel like filliing the prescription. Another doctor prescribed her Hrt, and she wasn't lazy and did what she was told, she got breast cancer 6 months later. Doctors tells us all kinds of things which I believe they believe is true however 5 - 10 years later... They just didn't know the side effects. I think what we put or do with our bodies is our choice, and to have someone try and guilt you into doing somthing your not comfortable with is just wrong. Sorry everyone... I have no problem with advice or sharing experiences but I draw a line when someone tries to guilt someone into doing somthing they are not sure or comfortable with.
Safe to say based on our experience after being there 5 times and friends experience that flu isn't a problem but something else at the resort. I don't know one time that one of us didn't have a bad couple of days with upset stomach. Usually my husband with vomiting and diarhea. And NO it's not because of OVER drinking or different food. He is a seasoned drinker and we don't eat anything abnormal while there. It really sucks and are always searching for ways to avoid it. We also don't brush out teeth or drink the water contrary to popular belief that it's fine.
