Flu shots are about 70% effective. I rather have 70% protection then 0%. You may be healthy but if you infect a child or elderly person,, cause you were to lazy or did not want to take the time,, and they die how would you sleep at night ?
If I get sick its from the plane naturalnewsblog.blogspot.com/.../flying-filth-and-bacteria-sitting-in I travel a lot and have learned not to touch my face until I get off the plane and wash my hands
I work in a hospital and we have had a major outbreak of influenza this year. The strange thing is that about 90% of those ill here have had their flu shot! I guess it depends on the strain that actually hits each year. The flu shot is essentially made up of educated "guesses" and stats as to what strains will be prevalent in a given year. I guess it doesn't hurt to get the shot. Really what have you got to lose?
I am a RN and I do not get the shot. I have my reasons and they can be googled. I am not taking any chances. This years flu shot did not help. Many people who received the shot ended up with Influenza. I did not. With that said, two or three years ago, I came down with a Mexican Influenza. Knocked me for a loop. While at resort, I did my best to party with a smile but it really hit me hard and lasted almost two weeks. I learned later it hit about 40+ CCC members during and after their trip. I figure I built up a crapload of immunities and I am good to go for another 7 years before I need to worry. :icon_cool:
When we were there in January a friend that we travelled with was out for the whole week. Absolutely sucks to be sick on vacation.
I swear by Alka Seltzer not only for my hangovers but if I remotely feel a cold or flu coming this nips it in the butt quickly. You have to get the fizzy tabs as it works the best. Never travel without my vitamins either
I never get the flu shot. I got it once many, many years ago and have never been as deathly sick as I was when I got that shot. I seriously thought I was dying, it was that bad. Only got the flu once since then and it wasn't near what it was with the shot. I've been to Mexico 3 times, and a cruise once. I haven't gotten sick on any of these trips. I'd say just practice good hygiene and safe practices (wash your hands lots) and you'll be fine.
