Sunwing was our only option for the 18 and flights for all other days when we booked sucked. Like 18 hr travel time one way! Went with Sunwing, never dreamed they'd be talking strike :bash:
True, Donald, you do get much more civilized flight times with Air Canada than with the charters. But out my way, Westjet also has great flight times. I arrive a bit late on the way in (5:00 pm), but that's hard to avoid due to the time difference, and most importantly, the flight is direct. On the way home, I don't fly out til 6:30 from Cancun...my shuttle doesn't pick me up til 4 pm! I feel like I have a free bonus day of vacation! :clappyinghappy:
So is this only an issue for Canadians? Or is Mexico this strict on all ferriners' passports? Ours are practically new this time so I'm not worried about it, but I'd never heard of this before.
Is it worth doing the double hop sometimes? Edmonton to Vancouver to Cancun for example? I could save 650 bucks if I go via toronto hehe, but thats an additional 5.5 hours of flight time, minimum. Sigh.....
Actually, last April Craig and Rene flew to Vancouver from Calgary to fly to Cancun with me. The Sunwing package from Vancouver was $400 cheaper than from Calgary. It's not a bad idea to check these kind of options provided you are not going too far out of your way. For April, I changed my flight to go thru Edmonton from Vancouver so I could fly down with Glenn & Monique. Flying out alone for a holiday sucks...there's something so desperate about pounding booze on the plane by yourself...your fellow travellers might be tempted to mount an intervention by the time you get the Cancun ha ha.
This makes sense, Its why we put together a little group this year from Edmonton. Always more fun. I think that next year will be a bigger group as they realize the fun.
We just flew with Sunwing in January. Both flights were on time but my gosh it was SOO small. I'm not that large and I felt obese trying to squeeze in their seats!
Good point. If you fly with Sunwing, pay the extra 100 bucks per person to get extra luggage weight and a seat with extra legroom. Get row 16, which is the exit row, and you'll have lots of room. Plus you get a $50 voucher against your next trip taken within a year, which I have actually managed to use a couple of times. The regular seats CANNOT accommodate anyone over 6'3". I saw a guy have to move to an exit row because he literally could not wedge his legs into his seat. Edit: I forgot to mention that if you buy the $100 package, you also get to board first, and carry-on space is at a premium on the plane, so this is a real advantage.
I am 5 foot 9 and 220 pounds , wide in the back, please be waiting at reception with a beer for me, I might need one
