How stressful! I feel terrible for those of you whose holidays are hanging in the balance with Sunwing. The threat of strikes is why I won't use Air Canada (plus their prices are always way higher than everyone else, at least from western Canada). I never even considered that Sunwing might be afflicted by work action at some point. My fingers and toes are crossed that Sunwing employees and ownership work out their differences SOON.
Then there is always the Sunwing flight this past Friday that left the passengers waiting on the tarmac for 13 1/2 hours. I did hear that they let them off at some point but it was not for a long time. They got $25 meal vouchers and $150 future flight vouchers. But 13 1/2 hours???:banghead:
I know, we do our best not to travel Air Canada for those reasons too Karen. Prefer to go West Jet or Air Transit but didn't have a choice this time, only one avail was Sun Wing. And it was also Sunwing that had to land unexpectedly due to smokers just a week or so ago. Hopefully their luck changes soon!
That wasn't really Sunwings fault tho. There was a family smoking on the flight that refused to stop. They had to make an unexpected landing in Bermuda on way to Dominican. But would still suck ass for all those on route to DR!!
No, this was a flight this past Friday in Toronto. Due to the storm the plane could not take off, but instead of taking it back to the terminal they left the passangers on the plane. I just read a news article about it as well and the passengers were given many excuses as to why they were not brought back to the gate. It stated that they were all given a half glass a water and a bag of corn chips in 4 hour intervals while on the plane. Article Quote "Passengers who spent 13 hours on a plane Friday got off exactly where they started — at Pearson Airport. As a fierce storm pummeled the GTA delaying and cancelling hundreds of flights, the 7 a.m. Sunwing flight, destined for Panama City, sat on the runway, returned to a gate, where no one was allowed to get off the plane, returned to the runway and finally back to the gate around 8 p.m. “This has been a comedy of errors, but it’s not funny,” said passenger Sherry Tamilia. “No food, no water, except for two packages each, at four-hour intervals, of corn chips, and one half glass of water.”
Flying sunwing for the first time on thurs. Wil let you know... They sure as hell cant be worse then Air Transat....
So it seems its almost 50/50 on every airline. I have gone with Air Transat to Mexico 9 times, this is my first trip with any other airline. Never once an issue with transat.
Landing in Burmuda less then 2 hours from Dominican cause someone didn't want to butt out ?? Wasn't an emergency, they chose to change airports, so I would put some of the blame on them for a bad decision and stranding hundreds of passengers.. Like you said sucks to be them
I have avoided Air Canada too like the plague in the past for the same reasons. This time around for$ 200 more they had a lot better times and connections , and they weren't due for contract talks so I bit the bullet.
