Anyone ever had issues with Sunwing out of Canada? Full package, direct flights etc. Not that it matters 6 sleeps 20 ish hours.
Sunwing's service can be hit and miss. I have done 4 trips to Mexico with them, and one was a disaster - late flights, rude staff. The other three were very good. I much prefer Westjet, but I don't hesitate to fly with Sunwing if the price is right.
We did have good flights with Sunwing and then we had major issues with Sunwing on our last trip. They would not let my mother on the plane the last trip because they said her passport was damaged. There was not water damage or rips or tears but because one page was separating of the cover (again not torn, the laminate was coming undone) they would not let her board. They also would not refund any of her money or offer to get her on another plane when she went to the emergency passport office to get a new one. Three days later she arrived via Air Transat who were fantastic to her. We will not use Sunwing ever again.
Never had any issues with Sunwing, great customer service! Food they serve on the other hand.... road kill ! Then again, any airplane service food is disgusting As far as Passports go with Mexico... it has to be in pristine condition otherwise they will not let you in. No folded pages, no rips or tears, no water damage etc etc. The cause of this is Canadian Immigration. They have slowed down immigration so much that Mexico retaliated by no allowing any travel with damaged passports, so keep them clean and new looking, otherwise you'll be standing at the airport with nothing to do.
I agree with you Lenni and had similar luck with Sunwing until that point. Her passport was actually quite good and the clerk grabbed the corner and pulled on it which caused it to come apart more than the millimeter it may have been. But you are right about the customs issue, Mexico has been sending people back for the slightest of passport issues and the fines and fees for this are completely on the airlines. Plus the airline has to get you on the next flight out of Mexico. My passport is always kept mint as I don't want any problems. It was a lesson learned for my mother though.
I just heard they may be going on strike March 2!! Of course, as we are booked with them!! I swear I will walk, swim and crawl to get to TTR come April 18!
yes! Used them twice to Cancun...twice flight delays...both times broken aircraft...last May to TTR...6:20am flight...left at noon...had to order a new plane in from Montreal. But it may just be my crappy luck! West Jet is best...then Air Canada and Air Transat is not bad. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the Passport info...didn't realize they had clamped down so much! I will have to go take a look at our tonight. Happy travels...
They'll get you there and back safely. Which is all I'm really grading them on. The rest is just bonus if it works out. Low expectations and being pleasantly surprised is always the best route. We've never flown out of the Cancun airport on time. Ever. We go every year.
I checked on this because (of course!) we leave March 2nd. The pilots' strike has been averted and for the flight attendants, the earliest strike is March 23rd. They have 5 additional days of "talks' yet, so hopefully it is all sorted out for the late March, early April travellers. Too much stress. We've always flown with AirTransat or WestJet. So, Sunwing is a new experience for us. Someone get me outta here!! :banghead:
