One of the girls that came down with me last April. Didn't get her luggage. Not lost by the airline but because someone else picked it up and didn't look at the tags. His was left for her.. Took about 24 hours to get her luggage returned to her. And she wanted to argue my suggestion of packing a carry on...... The airline I thought did a good job of tracking down the owner and getting the the luggage in the right hands.
On our way to Vegas via Seattle 18 months ago, the tag fell off my husband's duffle bag, so they didn't know where to send it. It sat in Seattle until we reported it missing and they tracked it down. Kind of our fault for not having our names on it securely enough. Then 14 months or so, we went to Orlando via Salt Lake and it missed our Salt Lake flight, because it was held up because of TSA. So it wasn't lost but it took 24 hours to get it to us. In both cases, we grabbed the free toothpaste and deoderant they offered, went and bought the basic things we needed to get by for 24 hours. Never ended up submitting receipts for the things we bought but were told they would have covered $50 or $75 in replacement costs.
two trips ago to Temptation US Airways lost my luggage. It actually did not make it on my connecting flight. I arrived at the airport at 9 AM, and they delivered my luggage to Temptation that same day until 6 Pm
On our first trip to Cancun in '11 our luggage didn't hop on the plane with us, it stayed back in Houston, but we only had to wait like 3 hours before it got to our hotel door.
We lost ours last year, but luckily coming home. We often have really stupid layovers (it is only a 3 to 3.5 hour straight flight) because straight flight are almost non-exsistant for us. We went Cancun to Mexico City to Atlana to Detriot coming home last year. Bags never left Mexico City. We had them with-in a day or two and Delta gave us $100 voucher for next flight. I always recommend a carry on with your essentials and some clothes, and also agree to split his and hers between bags. I'm paranoid about lost bags though. First big trip I went on ever I used those compression bags and packed 2 weeks of everything I needed into a carry on.
re lost tag... I always print my Itenary and put it in an outside pocket . I like the mix up your bag thing,, at least you would get half you stuff.
I always mix up mine and my husbands' stuff into our two cases, so that if one gets lost then still got a mixture of stuff. I also keep bathing suit and one 'nice' outfit in my carry on case, so worst case scenario I have something nice to wear and beach stuff.
I used to travel a lot for work... I averaged a bag being lost every 1-2 years... Each time, the airline apologized, and ended up delivering the bag to wherever I was, within 24 hours.
We just got home on the 27th. The only problem was our luggage didn't get home till the 28th. Useless Air strikes again.
