looks like Travel Republic will be $300 less (if we book hotel with them and flight with expedia)then Expedia flight and hotel. Expedia and Alpharoom was about the same. I heard good and bad about Travel republic so not sure if wise to pull the trigger now or wait. Hmmmmm.
Unconfirmed , but I read a post that says they only pay for your room 10 days out, so the odds of you being bumped are high in a high week
Yeah, we are nerding out on background research on Travel Republic right now. If there is even a .05% chance that we get bumped, there is no way we would book through them. D

Yes- that's what Kevin found when he was researching. Has anyone used them recently and everything went smooth? I don't think we are willing to take the risk- although TTR isn't at capacity when we go. End of July-see my dates below: I looked at alpharooms + flights and alpharooms was $1512 for the room (RunOfHouse) and our flights would be $1200. On expedia, $2586 for flight+ room, room is ocean view. Orbitz wasn't much more, about $15 more... and other websites were ridiculous.
Very true. Have been FBing with alpharooms for a week now almost daily. They are going to start using the same wholesaler as travel republic very soon The reason that the prices jump up and down so much is they buy a block of rooms upfront ( unlike travel republic) when that block gets sold out then the rates jumps. Later that day or the next they buy more rooms and then it goes back down again. After four days of emailing I finally got a response to my question from travel republic Q: what happens if 10 days out the hotel is booked A: we offer another hotel OR cancel with 20% charge
Wow. Thanks so much for this. I was even unsure about using alpharooms. Looks like TR is out the door. AR seems to be the best bet for a great deal.
Watched alpharooms several times a day and when it dropped to $521 pp for 8 nights in octoberni booked !!! Great deal. Just have to have patience.
