I am coming with a group of 8. All of us are first timers. Coming Feb 1 - 6. I have lots of questions. But the first one is because my wife told me last night that her trip will be ruined if she does not get a (true) oceanview room. So my question is, how far in advance should I call ahead to try to get an oceanview room? Or do they do that only upon check in? If that is the case, do I need to throw them some $$ to make sure I get a decent room? If so, what is the appropriate amount? Sorry for sounding like a complete newb, but if the wife gets a good room and is happy, I will be happy. Lots more questions in my head, this is the big one for her. BTW - Been reading the forums and sounds like you have a great group of people on here. Looking forward to our trip.
personally I thought the same kind of thing for my wife last year on our first trip and I booked one. The chances of getting one with a solid view of the ocean are very slim. The 3000block has the best view of the ocean but that is for premium members. Otherwise you will need to get a certain room in the 1000 block. We got an ocean view last year and it was a WASTE OF MONEY! You can let her know that if an ocean view room will make or break her vacation then she is spending WAY too much time in the room and in my opinion at the wrong resort. After all this isn't Sandals..... IT"S Temptation!! I think the only times we were in the room was for sleeping and extra curriculars.
Ocean view rooms are 2nd and 3rd floor rooms, you may have to lean over the rail to see the ocean. There are no elevators at Temptations only steps. Garden view rooms are ground floor, no steps. Ocean view rooms have a balcony and Garden view have a small patio. Our 3rd time, Jan 26-Feb 2
They have ocean view ''suites'' in the 1000 Block some have Jacuzzi (whirl pool tubs ) 1102,11011,1140 1139, those #,s are on e the first floor , true ocean view.Three floors, dont know if the upper floors have hot tubs . There are other rooms but the premier Members (time share) get first dibs. a lot of $$ but if she wants it ,,,,
We have had rooms 1140, 1102, and 1201 - all ocean front and an ass ton of money that is better spent on something else. The upper floor suites have jacuzzi bathtubs in the bathroom, not outside like the jacuzzi rooms (outside would be better!) 1201 is a great room - best one in the hotel. If you want to see pictures of the rooms and ocean front views, check out this Facebook album Facebook We have also had jacuzzi rooms, 1106 and 1110. 1106 has a drain problem in the bathroom, room flooded and we were upgraded to 1201 for free (snap!). 1110 was just fine, and just like the other garden view rooms, except the patio has a jacuzzi tub. The resort is really not made for you to spend lots of time in the room. TRUST ME when I say before I went to TTR the first time, I would have said the same thing as your wife, but after staying there several times, it just isn't that big of deal, and for our next trip we booked the cheapest room (only hotel we would do that). You may have to 'live and learn' to understand, but it is an expensive 'told you so'
Appology I feel like I need to apologize for my comment previously. Even though meaning ful as it was it did come across very brash and kinda of in a "suck it up" tone as it would be hard to understand if you hadn't been there before. In retrospect reading through the posts following mine I would say this. Yes, you can get the ocean view room with a good view of the ocean but it will come with a hefty price as it would have to be a suite like Donald and the Fox have stated. Our room was ocean view and we were stuck above patyO's on one side and the balcony was overlooking the sexy pool with a 1/2 way decent glimpse of the ocean. this was our view of the ocean. You can see the sexy pool and the premier members deck. view from the sexy pool bar... right by the swings view from out our door looking over PatyO's do you see the stairs, to the right behind my wife? That bldg right at the top of the steps is the buffet and where the sexy pool is. The gist of the matter is that it really is a live and learn type of experience. Every other beach resort we have been to you want to get a nice ocean view room because it is a bit of a walk to the beach, if the weather isn't just right you want to still be able to look at it or if you wake up and just wanna have a cup of coffee on the balcony and watch the sunrise. The outstanding truth of this is that those are all the reasons it is a waste. Some people are up right away, some(most) aren't. You have the beach to yourselves. Why worry about how people see you on the beach, you are on vacation.... even first thing in the morning. The beach is not a hard walk from ANYWHERE in the resort. I would say that the second you walk out your room if you were staying in the furthest point away from the beach you would have your toes in the sand in less than 3minutes. That depends on how drunk you are from the night before though obviously. If you wake up and think I could go for a cup of coffee or an bit to eat, just hit the El Embarcadero(buffet) and stroll to the beach.... literally 30yds from the restaurant and right next to the sexy pool. My point is that you quickly find that the ocean comes second here at TTR. The people you meet, service, atmosphere, and your vacation all come before a ocean view room. Trust me! I love the water/ocean! But this is the first place I have ever been that it took a back seat to the vibe!
Thanks everyone for your responses. I think she has calmed down a little and hopefully will have the correct expectations. The last time in Cancun (not TTR) our view was of a building under construction across a busy street. She is hoping for something nicer than that. Thanks again for the input!!
In that case (and assuming you didn't book oceanview), I'd just recommend requesting a room that does not face the street. Still not a big deal if that's where you get stuck, but it's a bit nicer to face the gardens. (And I second everybody who says oceanview is a wasted upgrade at TTR.)
