Boobs Cruise is $45 each if you paid your online deposit, if not $75 each + tip Offsite clubs are $50 each + tip + bus/cab home Transportation round trip from/to Airport $60 + tip TTR Tips - $10-15 a day Tours: Scuba, Fishing, Waverunners, Ruins - $40 - $75+ per person Beach vendors, cigars, trinkets, souvenirs, jewelry, Isla Mujeres. $300 - 500 for the week should suffice based on what you plan on doing. I would use your credit card when you can for vendors offsite as you get the best exchange rate and depending on card zero international fees. ATM fees + exchange rates in the hotel are offensive, better to bring too much cash than not enough and be charged a 20% fee. *Edited to reflect the effective 1/1/13 $75 per person Steve's Cruise fee.
We put the price up by $5 on Jan 1st, so it's still $45 on the day but now the deposit is $30 instead of $25. The only things you'll need any extra money for on the Boobs Cruise is for shopping/drinks at the downtown Isla Mujeres stop and tip for the crew (optional). Unlike the regular tour we include drinks at lunchtime ($10) and the reef tax ($7), so no unwanted surprises with us.
We brought about $600 worth, half in pesos and half in American. Important to know we found it hard to get change for larger American bills as there are laws against hotels/ businesses giving change in American. It isn't officially legal tender. Next trip down we will just bring American for the Boobs Cruise and mexican for everything else. The smaller peso notes are plastic so they are better to have on you during the day we found our money got wet, the plastic pesos didn't get wrecked but the American ones were pretty trashed.
Hi if you are leaving the resort then pesos are best if you are only doing the Boobs Cruise & staying on site then dollars, from experience 75 per cent pesos the rest dollars. Have a great time we always found outside the resort you get a better price in pesos as they always round up for the dollars
One thing we did last year was get about $100 - $150 in 20 peso bills, so roughly about $2 each depending on the exchange rate. They are a waxy coated bill and work very well around the pool. I travel a lot so, it is about this time of the year when I am going through airports and see an exchange counter, I will ask them how many they have, which is usually not a whole lot and buy them out of the 20 peso bills.

We bring 200 dollars in 2 dollar bills for tips and 800 for spending cash. They seem to really like the 2 dollar bills, easy to get if you tell your bank how many you want and give them a week to get them for you. We also tip 40 bucks or so on the Boobs Cruise.
