What's a reasonable amount to take for two weeks during spring break?

First went to Cancun years and years ago but can't remember how much I spent. We were contemplating £1,500 each but have been told that will be far too much.

    We're staying AI at Tucancun.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.

Ahhhh. The good ol´ spending money question ;-)

Well, it def is related on "how big you roll" :-D

Well, you are staying at an AI, thats good. Eleminates most of the expenses for food & beverages at daytime.

Clubs run usually between 45-60USD for Open Bar.
Makes around 500USD if you go out 10 nights in your two weeks.
(VIP Club-Packages will help to save you money even on that, plus you get Bottles and VIP-Area included).

Think about 2-3 tours maybe. Chichen Itza, Jungle Tour and maybe a Booze Cruise. Here we go with another rough 250.

Tips and a good Burrito each night you go out : 250 (10-15 in Tips+10 for Burrito and a Corona at the Surfing).

I always calc 100USD per day. And am always fine with that.

If you want Limos, Heli-Rides, Hookers and Magnum Bottles at a Club?

Well, the Sky is the Limit.....

    Cheers for the input.

We'll probably go VIP for a few nights - how much does that usually cost?

We'll also do a few trips as well so from your calculations I think we should have enough left over to live it up a bit if we decide to which is good.

PESOS! YOu dont wanna get ripped of with the exchange rate.

My personal advice from twelve trips to Cancun is:

    - Take some money with you for the first day, and take the rest out of the ATM there. You will get the best exchange rate ever.

But only use ATMs inside Banks, the ones at the hotels or on the street will rip you off.

Ok, in that case DONT convert ur money at home. Just a couple of dollars for the first day.

Convert the rest at a local bank or Exchange-Booth to Pesos...

Converting at home give u a really bad exchange rate

I went the past two Spring Breaks and would say £1k is more than enough. I failed to spend it on both holidays (Both being 2 weeks) With this i had table service every night. (First holiday went out 13/14nights second holiday went out 14/14 nights.) two excursions on each holiday and buying a authentic football shirt + family presents.

I used Thomas cook travel cards to take my money and had no problem. Not saying its better then what Nico has advised as he knows his stuff. Just that's how i did it.

    £1500 is loads pal.

I did the same first time round. Took a grand for a week. Ended up coming home with £500 and lived like a king.

I met american guys there that were on $70 for the WEEK!! They all get the party packages you see and pay up front for their booze.

Remember its all geared towards students. Therefore its peanuts.

50/60 a night for your open bar and thats it.

Bit of advice. When walking into the club, drop the bouncer or handler 20 bucks. Tell him to keep the vodka coming all night and you wont beleive how much they'll help you out. I went to City last year, me my mates and two girls... Gave the bouncer 20 bucks, told him i wanted a table in the middle of the dancefloor as a joke. He disappered and came back 2 mins later with a table over his head, took us a back entrance right to the front of the dancefloor. Put it down. We gave him another 10 and he had bottle after bottle of champagne, vodka, all sorts all night long. We just ended up giving loads away and pouring it down peoples throats!

Look after the dudes and they look after you!!
