First time at this so I have many questions. First off we are looking at probably November, it just works best for us, hopefully there will be a good crowd. How far out do you make reservations?
The earliest I have ever made reservations was 3 months in advance. The last few years we did 2011 - booked February 23rd, 2011 - March 22nd-31st- 1209/p from BWI for 9 nights. 2010 - booked January 13th, 2010 - March 10th-23rd - 1498/p from EWR for 13 nights :aktion030: 2009 - booked 21 days in advance - 1120/p from BWI for 7 nights. 2008 - booked 3 months in advance - $765/p from LGA for 3 nights, lol. 2005 - booked <month in advance - $1200/p from PHL for 7 nights. 2004 - booked 3 weeks in advance - April 10th-17th, 2004 - $1150/p from ACY for 7 nights. all trips were in March except 2004 and 2005. They were around April 10-17. The 2011 trip went from March 20th-April 3rd-ish. Prices will be higher during peak season/spring break. The other times I stayed in downtown Cancun
Yeah... I just looked for my airport..... one week in end of march is 1365 and one week in mid november is 1123. I think it could still go much lower than that. I've seen spring break prices for 1000/wk. You could maybe snag it for 9 something if you catch it! A few tips in case you aren't already aware: The cheapest days to fly to/from is Monday-wednesday. If you use Orbitz, become a member and they send you emails with deals and promo codes. Sometimes 200 off a package or 150 off a flight. I just got one last week 50% off hotel.
Thanks again for the info HammieJ! Have you ever booked through Hotwire? They seem to have the lowest rates of anyone I have found. I have used them a few times traveling within the states but never internationally. They are pricing GR for April 7th-14th at $1700 total where as Orbitz is $2100. Is it the promo codes you get from Orbitz that tend to make them cheaper? Thanks in advance.
Well all i can say is now is NOT the best time to book for April Prices went up $200 total since yesterday. Hoping they go back down in February when they are getting closer to time and trying to fill up the rooms. Wish me luck!
Hey try now. I searched last night at like 1am and it looked even cheaper than a few days ago when we searched!
Ok yea, its about the same as the other day. Call me crazy- but I am keeping a list and checking every two or three days and writing down the pricing. That way I can tell when it is truly probably the lowest I will get it REALLY hoping I see them fall some more as we get closer to time. Fingers crossed!
haha I do that too! The only problem is this! I have noticed the more often you check it... the prices fluctuate like CRAZY! I believe the register your IP address.... and especially if you sign it to search for prices.... and then they go up to scare you into thinking if you wait any longer they will only increase so that you book. I have also noticed the more people search for a particular destination on the same dates.... the rate goes up because the travel agency/provider believes there is a higher interest at the time and they should make more money by raising prices. Again this is only my philosophy but every year it seems to prove itself true! LOL:aktion047:
