I use Australian gold intensifiers (oils) and continue applying it in the morning as a moisturizer when i get back cause it also has tint in it.

Start with a 15spf for a day or two,, then and 8 then a 4.

Make sure to bring your own stuff cause the stuff they sell in the boutique ,and the stuff the nice girl sells buy the pool are very $$$ 20 to 30 $ a bottle.

Up your SPF on the water (cruise)

Moisturize at night with Aloe base moisturizer.( should be the first ingredient on the bottle and alcohol free)

Adjust for you skin sensitivity, if you r a Red head find an umbrella

I pre-tan for 300 mins before I go and spray once for the final glo, once I am there SPF is not so much important as my body is already ready for a sunshine smashing.

I will still run a 15 the whole trip tho.

Even aloe is a must, whatever can get some moisture in your skin, because from all the drinking you will be dehydrated.

I pre-tan before going anywhere tropical, or I will get way too sunburnt!! If you have access to a tanning place, and they have several different beds, it is best to start a month ahead (just buy a month membership) and go to a level 5 high pressure bed daily for the first week, start with only 10 minutes and see how it goes.

The next week alternate level 5 with level 3 - you want the level 3 bed because that will condition your skin to handle the strong rays in Cancun (if you only do the level 5, you will be dark but still vulnerable to instant sunburn). You may still be on a reduced time, depending on how week 1 went - ask the people who work there what they recommend based on your skin tone.

The last two weeks should be daily or every other day, alternating level 5/level 3 for the full time. If you want to accelerate darker, you can try a level 4 bed a few times if you can handle the heat. If you do this, you will have a great tan before you leave, and it will just get better with less hassle when you are in Cancun. You still should use sunblock, but you will look great from day 1, and you won't be as vulnerable to a bad sunburn trying to get tan in a short time.

Regarding tanning bed lotion - it is a complete RIP OFF to buy it from the tanning place. They will charge $50-$150 per bottle and although it is great stuff, you can get it for less online. There are lots of different kinds, but I would recommend not getting a bronzer one only because you will want to see how your skin is reacting naturally, and a bronzer will make it hard to tell if you are getting tan or burnt. Honestly, someone else said this earlier, but it is key to just make sure your skin is moisturized most of all - and a really good lotion like Hempz will do that. This is a great website for online ordering of that stuff:

    Buy Tanning Lotion

If you are in a hurry and only have a week or two to prepare, find a tanning place with a level 5 high pressure bed and get a bronzer lotion. Get as tan as you can with the level 5 bed, and then slather yourself like crazy with sunblock in Cancun. That will ensure you are dark brown and not sunburned.

I got a spray on tan, a really expensive one, before our trip in April to even out my tan because I didn't have enough time to go to the tanning bed as much as I needed to prior to the trip. Even when they say it doesn't smudge, it does - so white night and other things you might wear that are light in color will have tanning stuff on them that is difficult to remove. You also have a sticky mess the night before you leave letting it get "set" before taking the first shower - sleep on dark sheets!!

I didn't know there were different types of beds (except for standpoint and lay down), I thought the only real difference you'd change is the amount of time you were in there.
