We are 2 couples staying at Golden Parnassus early December. Does anyone have any info on renting scooters 50-125cc in the hotel zone area. I think it would be a blast , bar hopping up and down the shore. PS: 2 couples , male and female , no scooter "gay" jokes , they are alot of fun cruising and bar hopping aruond here in the Chicago burbs !!

There are a few places to hire scooters but the road is not very scooter friendly and I probably wouldn't recommend it. The standard of most other drivers is very poor.

You could do similar via the bus, not so exciting but a lot safer.

No problem. Thinking further on this, a day trip to Isla Mujeres might be a much better day out by scooter. Roads much less busy, lots more stops and plentiful scooter hire places.

I rarely get on the safety bandwagon, but I agree with Steve on this one. People drive fast in the HZ, when they can, and the buses are the worst offenders in the bad driving category. I've personally seen several motorcycles down, and emergency vehicles responding, though I am not in the HZ all that often.

Isla is much quieter, and the traffic moves much slower, giving you an even chance of getting back in one piece. Motos are the norm, there, rather than a novelty, so drivers are used to them. This also makes a big difference.

I highly recommend going to Isla Mujeres and renting the golf cart. One of the hilites of our last couple of visits there. A beautiful island! Worth the visit!

Really not recommended to drive around Isla on a scooter or golf cart bar-hopping either.
I'm not against bar-hopping but Isla is a town where people live, there are families and kids on the streets. You could hurt someone, taxis are great!
