I'm thankful for finding this website as most of my questions have been answered by a simple search. This scenario is quite unusual, or at least hard to find information on thru many google searches..

I am currently 3wks in awaiting for the return of my passport along with my FM3. I am trying to buy a car that is located in FL and have it shipped down here via Hyde. My dilemma is regarding registering the car or titling in FL prior to shipping. Is it required? What if I just had the seller sign the title over to me and deliver it to the port? I found the banjercito site to apply for the temp import permit online prior to shipping the vehicle.

I'd rather not go to FL myself if I can avoid it. Plus registering the car there when I'm not even go to be operating it there just seems silly.

I would appreciate any insight. I also realize through my reading that I migrations laws are changing and not sure how if any would affect me in this situation. I don't like the vehicle selection for the price down here and know it would be easier but I'd rather not.

    Thanks for the help!

TJ is probably the most in the know on this subject. Maybe send him a PM, he's usually very helpful.

You might want also to consider (probably already have) the fact that you wont be able to sell to a Mexican national or even allow them to drive, and you'll attract extra attention from the Police.

We have a foreign plates car here in Cancun...worst decision we ever made. Every time I have ever driven into the hotel zone in that car I get stopped for something. The price of used cars has dropped so much since I have been here that it just doesn't make sense to bring one down and deal with all the problems that Steve mentioned.

Thanks for that. I have heard mixed stories on driving foreign plated vehicles. Considering I live dead in the middle of the HZ I am now looking at just sucking it up and getting a car down here.
